Advice on rats and building a new coop?

We used water buckets with tantalizing bits of food hanging from the middle of a dowel rod secured across the top of the bucket.. rat walks across the rod and falls into the water..drowned rat. We also bought...

    Coop cleaning and general care

    Midwestern US problems! 🤦🏼‍♀️

I follow the frost dates like they are biblical...for my area in Missouri, the last possible date for a killing frost is April 20th..everything stays Winter until then as far as chores.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone ! No more than 6 hens and no roosters ( zoning in town). Even if we could , we'd not have more than that..it's only my husband and myself at home. I'm used to Buffs and RIRs, but since we can't free range in town, am looking at smaller dual purpose...

    "Old" Newbie in Missouri

..I used to raise chickens 20 years ago and learned a great deal from this group. Now I'm getting hens again and am amazed at the new products available , like watering systems and automatic doors ! I've never been 74 before..LOL...it's good to know that I can work around the coop smarter vs harder.
