    AC and Mixes: Genders

I kept four of the eight. Two of the four were full AC. Those two started crowing. I gave them to a neighbor along with a Female full AC and the Easter Egger AC mix. The four I kept…. I would assume two of them are Roos (white and black one with red on wings), but no crowing yet.

Stray cat mousing and hen safety

I have the exact same thing. Well, a mice once in a while. Cat looks like he’s about to pounce on the chickens on a few occasions, but I have seen chickens go after cats. I’d be concerned with hatchling/chicks. Bantams….hummmm(?)

    AC and Mixes: Genders

So wasn’t trying to hatch more…but sometimes chickens lay eggs where you wouldn’t expect and next thing you know….. Not that I NEED to know, but it’s always fun figuring out. In the past 5 hatchings (all on purpose) only once (one rooster) has the majority of members been wrong. *Penguin-...

Question of the Day, Tuesday, March 4th, 2025

Bird cage spray paint that’s safe for birds.

Can not powder paint, and I have a few cages that are starting to discolor and signs of perhaps rust. Want to paint because I plan to get African Grays sometime this summer. Are there any paints that are safe for painting the cages that will not harm the birds? I’ve been reading online, but...

    Chick with leg issue

So this chick is 6 days old. Was doing fine until this morning when I checked up on the group of chicks. Chick can move but on its hocks. Can not extend legs out and use feet. The feet and toes have movement, but unable to stand on them. It’s not splay, but the legs seem to be turned outward...

No crow collar — what’s your experience?

What I meant was I have, not had. “Have” If I had it would imply they passed, lol One rooster has been wearing the crow collar for a little over 2 years and the other 13 months. So I bought the Crow Collar from online, but I didn’t like it. I bought some hoop and loop/velcro that’s the same...

    ¿Celadon?

I’ve been gone for a few weeks on a business trip. Came back to being told and seeing 3 new quail in the pen. But… I have Coturnix, but the 3 hatchlings are different in color. White, yellow stripes, beige. Not like the the normal colors of past coturnix quail. Are these recessive gene celadon...

First time hatching, hatching with a broody hen instead of incubator.

Let it happen naturally. If they are under then hen, leave them there. Don’t mess with the eggs. This is a process that has been happening for a very long time. Sometimes there are issues, but that’s life. If under a hen, the hen will do what is needed/possible. Intervening is more likely...

50+!?!?!? “In the “Act means while it’s attacking another little creature. At 50+, something should have been done a very very long time ago. I feel bad for the dog…but…. Just saying, one of my pets gets a scratch on the leg, I’m not sleeping, I’m staking-out, I’m going to find out rain or...
