    Chicken pecks me.

1/5/24- Yes, I have an Australorp that pecks when I bring feed treats. I just say, do you want to eat? I do feel like she's just saying hi, I'm right here, notice me, me first. She doesn't always do this. Maybe some days she's just hungrier. Sometimes it's a pick at my pants or could be my...

Why is my rooster so bad at dancing?

My Orpington rooster is 3 years old now. He's built like a line backer. Only a short 1 wing dance. It's the girls that don't like to take part. Considering his size I can see their point of view. However, before he got so large the females act like silly teenage girls. They are vocal in...

Should I build a new run???!!!

I love my loop coops. I use 2 hog panels per coop. I have the 2x4s set 6 ft apart for width. The length varies. 2 are 8 ft because they have the nesting box protruding out the back. My other coop has no nest so it's 10 ft long. You can loop the panels tighter and it will then be taller so your...

    Is my coop all wrong?!

The perch can be relocated or buy a longer one to go diagonally. The vent window can be hinged at the top & propped open. Chickens can stay warm better in the winter rather than cool in the summer. Roosters get much heavier with time. The perch might not hold him plus the hens. If you have the...

May I have opinions on these Tractor Supply coops?

My hoop coops hold up way better than store bought coops. I can enter & clean with long handle garden tools in the hoop coop. You'll invest in material but way better. Just search to find how to do it. If you ever decide to not have chickens you then can convert to a green house.

    Hello from IL country

I really wanted to have some chickens. Not sure why. But an urge like a bucket list. 30 chickens later, I feel like I'm doing pretty good with all this. Learning and having fun. I could talk chickens all day.

    Chickens losing bottom feathers

True, feathers don't grow out until they molt. I've seen the bullying occur when the hen eats like a pig, crowding out the others. They all picked on her. Try removing her from the coop she might be as happy as my Buff Orpington who followed me around. She didn't eat like a pig any more & would...
