Will my chicks be okay if I put them outside?

I have 12 chicks born on 10/17. They are in my garage now with no heat lamp and the temp in the garage is about 20-30 degrees warmer than the temps outside. I need to get them outside in the coop, but the temps for the next week will be lower 30's for a high and lows in the teens. Will they...

Will Silkies take care of chicks even when they aren't broody?

Well, I did put the babies back with their mother yesterday and checked on them last night and she did keep them warm. I went out this morning and everything was still going good with them. I could hear loud peeping alittle while ago and went out to see why. I looked in the coop and realized...

Will Silkies take care of chicks even when they aren't broody?

I tried to catch their mother to put them in a different area, but she is very hard to catch. Would it be possible to keep them in the house for a few days and give them back to her once they are alittle stronger? Will she still accept them?

Will Silkies take care of chicks even when they aren't broody?

One of my chickens hatched out 13 eggs yesterday. Last night I helped her get all of her babies around so she could sit on all of them, but when I went back out a while later, they were peeping really loud. When I looked in the coop they were on the floor and she was sitting up on her roost...

Comment by 'Lynette' in article 'Adding To Your Flock'

Very good information. I have tried introducing newer chickens at night, but it didn't work out at all. One of them got beat up so I had to take them all back out again. The method that works for me is my flock living in separate areas next to each other and letting them free-range together. It...

    Baby chicks in November

Well after this, whenever my girls decide to sit on eggs, I will be moving her and her eggs to the sectioned off part of the coop from now on. It will be alot easier on her and me. I hate finding dead chicks.....

    Baby chicks in November

Thank you for the replies. I just got done moving them to a section in one of my coops that was originally a storage room. It is away from the other chickens and they can't get away from each other in there. But no, I absolutely didn't want to take the baby away from her.

50 Chicks Lost in the Mail - Please pray for a happy ending!

I am the same way. I don't think I could have looked in that box. That is so very sad and I hope the other babies arrive with no problems.

    Baby chicks in November

One of my silkies has been broody for awhile and hatched out some eggs yesterday apparently. I went out this morning to feed them and give them scratch and found one dead behind the coop and one dead under it. I opened the roof to the house up and there is one baby that is still alive that she...

What killed my Khaki Campbell last night?

I have already told my husband that I want to put new locks on and put fencing all around the run so nothing will happen again. I am also going to look at my chicken coop doors and run just to be sure I don't see a way in on those. And then I will have a trap set tonight.

What killed my Khaki Campbell last night?

The house they are in is surrounded by a pen with chicken wire on it and the main door was still locked. That's why I think it was a raccoon because there is no cover on it and I think it climbed on the wooden posts and got in that way. The lock is on the top of the door, so to open it, you...

What killed my Khaki Campbell last night?

I woke up this morning to find my ducks door had been opened. I knew I would find one of them dead when I saw that because I know I have raccoons around here. I want to know if it looks like a raccoon probably did this. I was live trapping them and letting them go on state land, but now I...

I don't know if she has because I have so many girls. Will the egg pass on its own?
