I ask the first one that layed every single day if she's going to give me an egg. She has a really deep voice and she just bawk baaaaawks at me! It's so funny! You should hear her egg song! We can hear it through closed windows. Thank goodness we live in the country!
Thank you! To answer your first question, we don't have a rooster so they'll be eaten. We have an EE and a maran also so we'll have a little variety to our egg colors.
The curtains I made from leftover fleece material we had for making guinea pig cage liners. For fun I'm going to change them...
Today Marsha layed her first egg! 🥰 It's a tiny, cute little egg that weighs in at 31 grams. She's been squatting for about a week. Today she was acting very panicked and kept going in and out of the nesting box so I had feeling today would be the day! One of my other pullets, Millie, layed her...
Millie layed her first egg! 🥰 She even layed it in the nesting box. Isn't it beautiful?!
She layed a soft shell egg that was broken/torn in the coop two days ago but I told her we wouldn't count that one.
Millie layed her first egg this morning! She stood on the ramp into the coop and sang her egg song as loud as she could. ❤️ Unfortunately it had a soft shell and had gotten broken. For the next hour and 30 or 40 minutes she belted out her egg sang and would go into the nest box to sit for a few...
Question....what feed do you give your laying pullets/hens? As of right now I'm thinking this will remain a 'no boys allowed' coop. I've been reading off and on, on BYC and I'm seeing so many answers. Keep them on starter, switch to all flock, go with layer. So confusing!
That's interesting about yours layering later but their daughters laying younger. By 9 months I would have questioning if something was wrong.
I check the boxes, the coop, the run, under the coop and outside every day and nothing. I stay home so I spend a lot of time out with them, I watch them...
Congratulations on their eggs! I've thought about the weather and decreasing daylight hours for them. We're in Iowa and so far our weather has been awesome! We've had two nights down in the high 40's and highs in the 70-80's. Perfect egg laying weather if you ask me!
This is worse than waiting for Santa as a child! Every morning I ask them who's going to lay me an egg. The girl in my first and second pictures is obnoxiously loud and sounds like a goose and she always throws in a bawk, baaaawk like back off, lady, we're busy hunting bugs and doing our other...
Who else is with me here? We have 18 and 19 week olds that aren't laying yet (Cinnamon Queen, California White, EE and Blue Maran mix). They're still on chick starter, have oyster shells, grit and spend probably 80% of their day outside of their coop/run. We made them a 'backyard' because free...
