I have two Sapphire Gem cockrells about 2 weeks from moving outside, and once they are grown Waffles will hopefully have a new run to move into. He will probably be sad, but I can't have him beat up because he's a quarter their size.
Waffles actually mounts, he's just too far up the hens back. He doesn't make it past her tail. My big roo was gotten by a bob cat the end of November. It cleared the 5ft electric fence in the middle of the day with full sun. So the girls were excited when I had to move Waffles in to the big run...
Entry # 3
Here she is again as Hannibal takes a rest under his shell belt/blanket. This was my very first incubator hatch, and I was so afraid to do anything that may have hurt the hatch.
Entry #1
These are my blue and blue/black splash Jersey Giants that hatched on April 16, 2025. There are four cochins still inside their eggs, and you can see the last JG still has his shell as a belt.
The closest chick was the first to hatch, and she was the only one to make noise while still...
Yes! My tiny Serama roo is like this, too! It's like he needs to be ready to fight the wind at any moment. He's my only roo at the moment, and all my hens are regular or giant breeds. My man is like Donkey from "Shrek" and his dragon wife, except he's never made babies. ;)
But he THINKS he's a...
That used to be a big issue for us, too. We put the fake eggs in the nest boxes, and they finally figured it out. We also use old 2 drawer file cabinets with the top drawer removed. They really like those a lot. I think because they are big, but also make them feel secure. I spent a lot of money...
One thing mine do that drives me nuts is making dirt bath holes all over the run despite having several designated bath stations. They pick places that are inconvenient like right in front of the gate or along the bottom of the fence. I have to fill those holes in or two things will happen. 1) I...
I gave up on washing my lavender cochins butts. They are not fans of it, and it gets poopie angain right after. Sometimes the other chicken get that way, but in the morning they've cleaned themselves. Not the cochins. Such diry birds for being so beautiful. I do verbally shame them, but they...
I have light brahmas and lavender cochins who are a light silver. They do the exact same! The last giant storm we had with a baby tornado, tore down their front run, so we had to move them to the back. It rained for a week straight. Never a light mist, but always full on rain and the lows were...
I'm so sorry little Bailey didn't make it. I did something similar with an abandoned kitten whom I named Shade. She was a little black and orange Tortoise shell calico. She looked like she was laying under a shade tree and the sunlight through the leaves dappled her black fur. I even took her to...
I'm bawling. That was very sweet, thank you. He is where he can run and jump and fly free. With endless soft scrambled eggs and a touch of honey. Where it's warm all day and cozy at night. He gets to play with all my birds who have been taken from me too soon.
I was thinking the same thing. I actually sat on the couch and crocheted for a while. I had to get lost in the mind numbing counting and didn't know what else to do.
Seal passed at 6:30 pm. 😞
