Yep, they were both white! That's why I am confused! All the other hens should lay brown or colored eggs I believe, except the other 3 leghorns, but they are all month younger!
We have a flock of 15 hens, only one of which is laying so far. This is our first time keeping chickens, so I'm not sure what to expect. We started with 6--and added 9 more a few weeks later. One of the 'orginal' six is a White Leghorn--she just started laying last Tuesday, at 17 weeks and she...
We have 15 CX--this is our first run with chickens, and with meatbirds. They are almost 8 weeks old--we had planned on butchering this weekend, as they are all between 7 and 8 lbs. This morning I went out to feed them, and noticed one getting trampled. He is sitting with one leg fully extended...

Awesome, another SD BYC'er! I don't think there are too many SD folks here so it's always good to come across a "neighbor" LOL. I'm about 10 miles north of Lake Andes, out in the country. About an hour southwest of Mitchell Hubby's work is near Huron which is what generally gives...
Thank you everyone! Yes, we were very lucky when we bought this house! But chickens were the reason we were looking for rural properities--I couldn't have chickens in town. So when this came available we snatched it--house is perfect for us, 3 acres, heated 'dog kennel' and a 'garden' that is...
Thank you!
I actually started them on the chick starter for the first couple weeks--and their feed was unrestricted. Since we have been using the meatbird feed, we have been doing 12 on, 12 off.
Our next batch we will use the same feed throughout--the Nutrena stuff is 22% protein.
Hi everyone, I am new to BYC, and new to chickens in general! We brought home our first chicks March 25:
3 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Rhode Island Reds, and 1 White Leghorn
and
15 Cornish Crosses

We got our chicks moved out to...
We are new to chickens, and started with 6 hen chicks, and 15 broiler chicks (cornish crosses)--the CX are about 4 weeks old, and so far I have just been buying feed from my local farm and fleet store (which happens to be Runnings), but it's adding up quickly! They sell 40 lb bags, and they...
Aww, those bath pics are great!!
I have wondered it was ok as well. Right now I only have chicks, but I have a white leghorn who can't seem to stay clear of the poo! Maybe when she's bigger we'll have to introduce her to bathtime!
