    Pricing Top Exhibition Quality Chickens

That’s so wonderful!! I can understand why someone would want to keep their breed going by giving away free birds, but also, if the breed doesn’t really “look” like a chicken and is more of the exhibition-only type (frills, fancy, not useful in the wild lol) it could be worth more to people who...

Those are the prices I’m used to yes. I’m guessing it must be for really good well known bloodlines to go a lot higher

    Pricing Top Exhibition Quality Chickens

It’s a local breeder here who does Macaws, Cockatoos, peacocks, toucans, etc. also so I’m guessing it might be inflation given their other birds sell for $3000-$20,000.

That would make sense, since those first 2 werent being sold at a show. And that’s good to know I’m glad people support the clubs that way!

    Pricing Top Exhibition Quality Chickens

Thank you for your experience! That makes sense that certain breeders who gatekeep their breeds and basically have a monopoly on them can make 10k on a pair. I’ve just heard these crazy numbers recently and I was very confused if people actually paid these.

    Pricing Top Exhibition Quality Chickens

That’s so interesting actually bc I was talking to a few people who are selling a lavender silkie ($700), Ayam cemani ($1500), Egyptian fayoumus ($1100), Andalusian ($1500), white faced black Spanish ($2000), and D’Anvers bantam ($850). All “very good” quality according to their breeders. Maybe...

    Pricing Top Exhibition Quality Chickens

Hello everyone! I’m hoping some experienced exhibitioners can shed some light onto the prices they’ve seen or engaged with for high quality top tier chickens. I know that other birds can go for $5000+ for a high quality adult of a rare breed, but I’m wondering what the same top tier chickens...

Red Silkie Genetics? Buff vs Red Genetics?

I wish there was a chart I could just follow to make it happen haha! I guess it’s just trial and error on a large scale, I’ll update this post to see how it goes! :)

Red Silkie Genetics? Buff vs Red Genetics?

They really don’t exist in the USA

Red Silkie Genetics? Buff vs Red Genetics?

AMAZING!!! Thank you for such a detailed explanation! This is very helpful!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼😄 Other than colour, the other obstacle is breeding to the Silkie SOP. So if the starting buff male is a silkie adhering “perfectly” to the SOP (theoretically), I could still theoretically get reds that look more...

Red Silkie Genetics? Buff vs Red Genetics?

“Because the dilute gene is dominant, you might have some issues of having the red properly express.” Yes, that’s one of the things I’m concerned about. If it’s even possible at all to achieve a RIR colour if the diluters just keep coming back and back.

Red Silkie Genetics? Buff vs Red Genetics?

Hello! 😄 I’m planning on working on a line of red silkies. It seems like there is a lot of confusion out there on the red/buff genetics, so I’m HOPING (🙏🏼🙏🏼) someone can shed some more light on how it actually works. My limited understanding is that buff genes have red diluters and red genes...

Fully Developed Chicks Dead In Shell?

Why don’t you let broodies hatch Cornish bantams?

Fully Developed Chicks Dead In Shell?

Parents came from 2 different Silkie breeders. I feed them the same feed as my other hens whose eggs are hatching well 🤷🏼‍♀️

Fully Developed Chicks Dead In Shell?

Hello there! I’ve been incubating eggs for years with broody hens and got a new mechanical incubator last year. It worked perfectly fine for the past 10 hatches I did but this hatch I did a mix of Silkie eggs and other large fowl breeds. The LF breeds pipped, zipped, and hatched before the...
