Thanks for all the info Pyxis, it all helps a lot. I have one more question (for now at least, lol).
In regards to the color phase alleles, I see you list Li+ (dominant wild-type), li (light phase) and li^h (harlequin). Which is more dominant between li and li^h?
Awesome thanks a lot. That was a great help.
Now a few more questions:
- From reading Dave Holderread's stuff, I now assume that tricolor Anconas are basically Anconas without the extended black gene (homozygous for the recessive wild-type gene at that loci). Is this a assumption correct...
So if I understand it correctly, then I can look at the potential offspring as so:
- For the sex-linked genes (in this case Chocolate), the females can only inherit a gene from the Drake.
- For a male offspring, you run the probability normally, except for the fact that he will always get the...
So I have read over the following articles on color genetics multiple times:

Thanks for the reply. After contemplating over this thought this morning, I think I'll be much better off just starting with a small flock of Anconas. It's probably a much easier learning curve with starting with a single breed. Then as I gain more knowledge and (more importantly) first hand...
Thanks for all of the welcomes everyone.
I'm going to have hundreds of questions, I am sure; however I'll post them in their respective forums. I tried to keep this strictly to an introduction. Don't worry, I'm sure I'll have the Ducks forum flooded with my questions by the end of the year...
I plan on having a mixed duck flock in the future. I am starting with a small flock (1 drake, and 5 ducks); eventually though, I plan on growing the flock to be of about 6 or 7 Drakes, with the appropriate number of females for a healthy ratio.
The ducks/drakes will vary in size from my...
Hello all. I've been obsessed with the thought of raising ducks for about a year now. I spend most of my free time researching and planning on starting to raise a flock. So I have spent a lot of lurking on this site during that time, but now it's time for me to start asking some specific...
