    Solar fan with battery backup

Our coop is hot like this. You might look at cheapy rv fans. They are usually 12 volt and they can move some air. You could mount it with zip ties even. Just look for one with a low power draw and connect it to a solar kit. You can connect it directly to the “load” ports of the solar charge...

    Chickens charge through electric netting

Also my fence was sagging some. So the larger holes were nearer to the ground. I’ve since bought some fiberglass rods to help hold up some of the sags. And I’d probably like to add another 50 or 100 feet of netting to my whole setup one day

    Chickens charge through electric netting

Maybe now that they’ve grown out to a bigger size I could try again. My coop is right near a lot of underbrush and trying to get a bird out of that is a real PIA. Not just because it’s thick, but it’s thorny too. So I haven’t been willing to try it again. Now I have a small wire fence loosely...

    Chickens charge through electric netting

I only tried it once, and it was the first time we had ever let them out of their coop. To say, as chicks they stayed in a brooder, then moved to their coop for several days, then let into the 100’ fence area. They were smaller at that time, so I don’t know if this is just a “pullet” thing or...

    Chickens charge through electric netting

My chickens will charge and successfully pass right through a premier 1 fence. When one does it, the rest follow. They cluck like mad while doing it, but they do it. I was hoping the electric netting would contain them, but I’ve learned it just will not.

    Solar fan with battery backup

This would work fine. You can use any sets of 12 volt fans. Amazon sells 20 watt solar kits that come with a panel and a charge controller. Topsolar Solar Panel Kit 20W 12V Monocrystalline with 10A Solar Charge Controller + Extension Cable with Battery Clips O-Ring Terminal for RV Marine...

Attaching hardware cloth to wood with stapler gun?

A handheld staple gun really requires a very firm grip. If you aren't able to press it down to the wood hard enough while you close you the handle, it will jump just a little and the staple will mamsy-pamsy on you.

    Which Electrifier for this fence?

I didn’t add the link to tractor supply, the website did. The actual unit doesn’t matter. The real question is how many joules is required to properly electrify 100 feet of 48” poultry netting.

    Which Electrifier for this fence?

Maybe I asked this question incorrectly.

    Which Electrifier for this fence?

If I have 100' of Premier 1 48" fence... and I wanted to buy a solar unit to electrify the fence... how much or how big of a unit is required to do this? The unit sold by premier 1 seems to be overkill where tractorsupply has smaller units, but I don't know how small I can go. Also, my fence...

Egg Layers That Stay In Short Fence

Hi all, I'm putting together a small backyard flock for eggs. I have lots of room, but I don't want my birds to leave the are I have designated for them. My plan (at this stage) is to use a premier electric fence around the coop and the perimeter of the area for the chickens, but I don't want...

Texas - buying local feed for Broilers?

Good news, West feeds are available at a feed store nearby. I'll be posting separately seeking recommendations on where or whom to order chicks from, and how to make a simply brooder setup for a small-ish amount of chicks. I don't ever see myself running more than 40 at any one time unless I...

Texas - buying local feed for Broilers?

Yes Yes thank you. And these prices are far more reasonable in my opinion. I found this PDF from an extension office in the NE and it describes in some more detail the change in feed as a broiler grows. https://www.uvm.edu/newfarmer/production/livestock/Growing Broilers-Darre.pdf And just...

Texas - buying local feed for Broilers?

What feed do you recommend? For the sake of this recommendation do not worry about non-gmo, or organic or any of those labels.

Texas - buying local feed for Broilers?

Hi BYC Community. I am planning on running a handful of Cornish Cross in a tractor as a pilot test run. I live in Texas, north of the Houston Metroplex, north of The Woodlands. I am seeking recommendations on feed for these birds. I am an absolute beginner armed only with the knowledge I...

    Ground quality under chicken tractor

Yes, thank you for the replies. If they live from 0-9 weeks, and let me assume they live 7 weeks in the tractor, that's 49 days and 49 moves. If the tractor is 10 feet long then 490 feet is required. Is my math right here?

    Ground quality under chicken tractor

Nothing on the ground would hurt them. I do live in an area with many raccoons, possums, snakes and forested areas very near by. I'm trying to understand how long the chickens are in the tractor. If they dress out in x number of weeks - how many weeks are in the brooder and how many are in...
