Right now, Tylan, (water soluble) Coorid, and, like VetRX poultry solution but I’m not sure I should count that.
I can’t believe I didn’t see your message, but thank you for your quick response!
Hello! Thank you thank you thank you wonderful people again, this has been the most stressful spring and I can’t appreciate you all enough for your help.
One of our young pullets, a 2 month old Olive Egger, has developed a facial swelling on her left side, and her eye is giving off yellow...
Four hours now, and it had a swollen belly a little (that I could tell) when it hatched. Not sure if that’s just because she was a little late or something though.
Our brooder has bits of decaying eggshell from the first hatch 4 days ago, and the new chick has a swollen belly and open navel. It has lots of energy, hatched in an hour, and is moving around a lot, we need to know if it is safe to open the incubator to briefly wipe the area with iodine to...
Thank you very much! I checked her eyes and have been giving her the Nutri-Dench. After a bit more work, she has been accepting food once I move it around so she can get it. She simply has very limited vision! I think she is otherwise healthy.
I just hatched some new babies two days ago, and one of them was struggling. It couldn’t walk well, had curled toes and staggered as it went. Its peeping was slightly raspy and it moved to sleep in the light. It seemed like it had a case of mushy chick, as well.
But it was never as weak as the...
I had a bad start to my first try incubating eggs (chickens) on my own, and ended up with the wrong heat level and humidity for days in the beginning. We have had 3 hatch well, only 1 with curly toes, but I am waiting on the rest 2 days after first hatch. Is it safe to leave the egg remains in...
Thank you, sounds very reasonable! Also BEST NAME EVER, you are on point, and also that’s literally cartoon level of shenanigans!!! Oh my gosh!! I actually laughed out loud in the library. :gig
Thank you for this! Yes, I had already taped the toes when I noticed and didn’t want to further distress her (poor thing was really upset at the process, it took me a while to get that one foot in particular flat) and so I didn’t end up getting a photo. Hopefully if it is an issue, she will heal...
Oh, you’re totally right! I guess I just didn’t notice it in any other feather-feet chicks we’ve had as I’ve never encountered toe curling before. Thanks! I feel better about it now.
I would say after a night of the “shoes” that she probably has mild spraddle leg—she’s adjusted a lot to walking with them but her feet are still tilted outwards slightly. I had a video of her legs but it would not allow me to attach it here. I will do my best to correct it a bit.
I don’t know...
Okay, that sounds pretty reasonable! She does seem to be doing a little better than I thought. She is so little i suppose I have time to correct either way. Quick question: how would I know if one was broken vs curled? I am scared it may have been caught in the incubator because it had a little...
Thank you! I tried the taping, but I worry there may be something up with her legs as well, and I’m not sure I got her feet completely flat either way. She cries incessantly after the taping unless she’s propped against a wall or held securely. Is there a reason the tape might be distressing...
I just did my first incubation (that I personally managed, my family did them before when I was really little) and I did not do a good job with the heat and humidity. (Partially because the incubator was years old, also just inexperienced) I really want the chicks that made it to do well—this...
It was totally messed up for like a week/5 days because the incubator was old and the temp was wrong and I knew it but so we’re all of our thermometers. Thankfully I bought a good one and fixed the issue, but yeah it was bad. And then the humidity was off… anyway, we were lucky enough to get 2...
Oh no! I’ll remove it. Do you think my other ones are dead? I know some of them weren’t that full, but some were part of the way there. Maybe they are just behind?
