I have 4 Muscovy hens that are going on 8 months and have yet to start laying. With it being almost November and me living in Canada the days are getting quite short. Im assuming that has something to do with it? Does anyone have a rough estimate as to when they could start, February or march maybe?
One of my hens hatched them out. It’s a black Australorp x copper Maran cross breed. Ive had 24 chicks hatched out this year by hens and all have been fine so I don’t think it’s anything to do with the hens? It’s no smaller than the others and is just as healthy just a little odd looking.
Does anyone know what could be wrong with this chick? It’s had this issue since it hatched out and none of its siblings have it. It looks like its feathers aren’t forming properly and when it first hatched its feathers were growing out in individual beads and not forming down like a normal...
Recently 5 of my 9 hens have gone broody. Ones already hatched out chicks and the others are sitting or getting ready to sit, why is this? The reason I ask is because of the ages of the birds and the breeds. None of the breeds are famous(3 are hatchery strain pure breeds) for going broody and...
The second egg was laid the male still showed zero interest. The eggs I candled were infertile. Also the male never showed interest in breeding the female. I’m pretty convinced they are two females
Recently my pair of pigeons laid an egg. The thing is the female is the only one showing interest in the egg. The other one just sits a couple feet away and watches. I am thinking I might have two females? Leading up to the egg laying they were doing every thing paired pigeons do (preening each...
Unfortunately I don’t have a food saver but the grains are available every week so I am thinking they would not be frozen long enough to damage any nutrients.
I would do that but seeing as a have a small amount of small birds it wouldn’t really be practical to take as much as I could use right away(probably like 2 cups) I might try freezing it and just see how it goes
I recently came across a chance to pick up more spent grain then I could ever use( I only have small flock of quail) is there a practical way to preserve spent grain other then drying. freezing could work but I have read that the grain will only last hours after being thawed anyone who feeds...
Hi, what coop/loft dimensions would you all suggest for a single pigeon breeding pair. Also what do you think about dirt floors for pigeon enclosures I ask because I have a dirt floor aviary that currently houses quail but it’s sitting at only just over 2 ft high and is 10 ft long and 2 ft wide...
