Sanctuary for a severely disabled chick?

Hi I’m not sure how old this post is or if you still have chicken. I have a one eyed cross beak whose facial skeleton was crushed on one side. She’s now 18 months old and I’ve been hand feeding since she was born. Make a mash out of feed and whole fat plain greek yogurt and add water til mash is...

Topic of the Week - "Special Needs" Chickens

I have 3 special needs chickens. Rhonda is a one-eyed, cross beak who had her facial skeleton crushed on one side. She was a little fighter and tried so hard to eat on her own. I’ve been hand feeding her for 18 months. Helen, who is actually a rooster is blind and anemic. I give him B-12 shots...

How long do broiler chickens live? As pets

My concern is that she was fattened up for market and I can’t put her with others as she can’t really move fast enough to protect herself. I have her in a pen outside during day so she can see everyone but she has no belly or bottom feathers. She stays in a stock tank in my garage in evening...

    Eye injury

She’s doing fine today. I babied her yesterday and continue to treat her eye. She’s back with the flock and seems more like her old self. I’ll continue to keep close watch but she’s eating and pooping normally.

    Eye injury

One of my Sapphire gems sustained an eye injury 4 days ago. I’ve been using saline wash and treating with Vetrimycin eye gel and she is opening the eye but there is no pupil so I’m assuming she may now be blind in this eye. She seemed ok but depressed by herself so I put her back outside with...

    Special needs duckling

I wanted to give an update. Tuck is great at swimming and has really strong legs. He has no other health issues but can’t stand on his own or coordinate his leg movements. At 6 weeks old I brought Tuck to a sanctuary called Here with Us Farm Sanctuary in PA, where he is now living with two...

    Special needs duckling

Gosh that’s so sad but I’m glad you did what you could and gave him love while he was on this earth. ♥️

    Special needs duckling

I have had him swimming since he was a few days old. I have set up a kiddie pool with grasses and plants and he loves diving and nibbling on moss and grass. I took him to a specialist and he does indeed have neuro issues that prevent his legs from moving normally. The vet was impressed that he...

    Special needs duckling

Does anyone have any suggestions on building a safe containment for a duckling who will never walk on his own? He’s tiny now and I have made him a safe home in a rubbermaid tub with rolled towels for support and puppy pads but this is short term. As he grows he will need a set up that offers...
