For now my laying hens free range. They do go into the old barn at night and roost out of harms way of preditors. The meat birds are in 8' x 8' x 2' pens made by 1" × 1" lumber. I wrap the pens with chicken wire. Spent less than $100 to build. Light weight pull the birds to new grass everyday...
I enjoy a good adventure. In 2013 Hiked the Appalachian Trail, 2019 paddled the Mississippi River. If you ever travel this way we have a work for stay primitive camp ground.
I have 2 Cornish cross hen's and one rooster that missed their butcher dates. They are all big and healthy not quite a Year. I had one gifted to me by a friend of a friend. I suspect she is a couple years old.
Thanks mid October here in NE KANSAS got down to 32 this morning my 5 week CC all seemed hea lol they and ready to eat at sunrise. Tonight it is going down into the low 20's no rain. I am going to put out brooder lamps to be safe.
