Hey all,
I was just wondering if anyone could help me work out what’s happened to my Light Sussex roosters comb?
I did noticed it had some dark spots/doscolouration the other day however when I’ve looked today he has scabs and open sores, I think these would’ve only appeared yesterday or...
Hi all!
I had 2 chicks hatch 9 days ago and all has been well until today.
I noticed one of them was laying down at the feeder to eat and when I went to reach into the brooder she hopped up and limped under the heating plate.
Her leg seems to be causing some pain but it doesn’t look broken...
Egg production is great, they started late compared to other breeds (about 30 weeks) but I was expecting that. Most days I get an egg each from them. Even though they started at the beginning of winter they’ve continued to lay consistently throughout (I’m in Australia).
We had one go broody...
Well we had one chick hatch this morning and she has now killed it. The chick was doing well and was very vocal when I checked on them first thing but then she killed it soon after.
I took the other 3 eggs away and have popped them in the incubator, I’m hoping it hasn’t caused them any...
Hi all! I was just checking on my broody this evening before locking up, she’s had 5 eggs under her due to hatch in 2 days time.
Unfortunately, I noticed a bit of shell near her head so had a look underneath and she has squashed an egg so the chick was hanging out of the egg.
The chick is...
So I don’t know how many of you saw my previous post regarding this cockerels leg injury, I’ve had great success healing him up from that and when I brought him inside tonight to change his bandages and check the wound I see this :(
Is there anything I can do to help him or is this just...
That’s her behind the cockerel, I gotta say I’m reeallllyyy disappointed that those two have yellow legs, they are probably the 2 best looking out of the flock aside from that trait coming through.
Hey All,
Just a note to start that I’m pretty upset with myself about this so please be kind.
I have a 22 week old Light Sussex Cockerel that I had a spiral leg ring on, despite it being quite a large size and flexible I noticed that it seemed a bit tight while I was checking them all 2 days...
Perhaps it could’ve been a mistake further up the line that has come through in Nugget and Itsy Spider. Probably went unknown by the breeder that I got them from though because her whole flock are your typical white legged Light Sussex.
They are definitely all Light Sussex. Spider, Nugget, Doug, Bob and Butter are all from one set of parents who are definitely Light Sussex and both parents have white legs, only Spider and Nugget have yellow legs. Ryan, Chickoletta and Loca are from another set of parents that are also...
Hey all,
I’m back yet again with my Light Sussex flock. Just when I think I know who’s who and what’s what they change again haha. Can anyone help me confirm my below guesses, your help is much appreciated :)
Also please excuse the chook poo in the pics haha.
Edited to add - They are 15 weeks...
Hey everyone,
I updated my earlier post but haven’t had any responses there so I thought I might try my luck on a new post.
Chicks are 9 weeks old now and I have a fair idea which ones are for sure girls and boys but I’m stuck on 2 of them and I’d love some input :)
Itsy Spider - Cockerel (I...
Okay! Chicks are nearly 9 weeks old now and I have a fair idea which ones are for sure girls and boys but I’m stuck on 2 of them.
Itsy Spider - Cockerel (I love him, he’s the friendliest of the 8)
Nugget - ? Comb and wattles are bigger than my girls but smaller than my obvious cockerel. Some...
