I believe she is just a trooper with a little mangled foot. I just cleaned and made sure it didn’t get infected and she was fine to go back with flock!

New chic has weird wound?? Help!

Newly hatched chic (from today or maybe yesterday) from under my broody hen. Has a weird injury, almost like a second vent? I’ll attach a picture of the injury and then also vent, which is clear. Could it be from mites/fly strike? My coop might have mites.

    All babies have big crops?

they are about a week old. I don’t think they are drinking as much water as they should be, but they seem to be eating a lot. No signs of pasty butt. All babies have big crops?

My hen hatched 8 beautiful chics in the coop. Our coop floor is sand. I’m worried the babies might be eating the sand? All their crops seem super full & now that I’m thinking about it I’m not sure I see a lot of baby chic poo. Would they eat the sand? And if so, would it hurt them? What can I...

HELP new baby chic has maggots

Here are photos. I’m concerned the maggots could have crawled into her vent area. When I helped take the shell off, there was a tiny bit of blood. The baby doesn’t seem to be bleeding any more but her belly looks big! Again I’ve never seen a chic this young so no idea what is normal.
