She has been doing good all day and still is. The noise she was making and mouth breathing stopped this morning. I just gave her some coconut oil and massaged her crop, which still has some in it but not as full as this morning. I'm concerned that her emaciated state could be causing her crop...
First of all I've had chickens and I went through a lot with Ethel, a blind totally emaciated chicken that we ended up caring for for 7 months, so I know a bit about tube feeding and such. One of my customers went in the hospital and a couple days before the hospital her chicken came up sick. I...
I'm not sure if this is anything I should be concerned about or not, but I just read today that darker eggs should not be incubated with lighter eggs because they require different humidity. If that is correct, what should I do?
I put 22 eggs in the incubator. 12 were light blue (Americauna...
P We are getting ready to build a new coop and plan to use some weather boards we get collected. I had previously read somewhere in this group But of course I can't find it now, about using a penetrating something. I can't remember what it was, maybe a stain or a pesticide or I don't know what I...
No health issues with any of my chickens. Roo is taller but slimmer that the hens. We know he 'can" produce babies because we have 7 of his chicks in the brooder right now.
Two issues here: We have eggs in the incubator, NR360. 10 from my roo/hens and 12 I purchased locally. Today is day 11.
#1- why are the egg shells from my roo/hen so splotchy when candled?
#2- why do mine appear so much further behind in growth than the purchased eggs? All were put in the...
The two you circled are supposed to be light Brahmas. The feathers on their wings are starting to look like it based on the brahmas we have, but I guess we'll see what they turn out to be. Always a surprise when you get tractor supply chicks.
Thank you,
I do have them on starter crumble and they're all eating well. Water cleaned and refilled 2 x day. None have ever been outside or exposed to any of chicks, other than the TSC chicks. So I'll stop the BSFL til they're older and keep doing what I have been (-BSFL)
Chicks 3-8 days old. A few have diarrhea that just started today. The oldest I hatched and is an only survivor so I bought her 7 TSC chicks as companions in the brooder. Had 4 more hatch Sat and 1 more Sunday. All are in the brooder together as of late last night. I didn't notice any diarrhea...
I just saw someone has this on FB marketplace and am wondering if this is the same thing I see people saying they use in their coops and brooders (hemp product). If it is, at that price I'll want to get some.
She has been a house chicken since sometime last year when she went blind. This position is not her all the time position. She gets up and walks around a little bit and when she lays she usually lays flat on her stomach. Just noticing this different position recently, I'm curious if it means...
Mae is 8+ yrs old. Blind. Being tube fed ATM. Doing well for the most part. But recently I have noticed her sitting like this with her tail up. This isn't her normal position. Is this anything I need to be concerned about?
So little Xena now has a brooder full of roommates. I wasn't able to find anyone locally that had any day old or up to 3 day old chicks, so I went to tractor supply. Big mistake. They had just gotten chicks in today so they had a large variety. If we got what the tag said then we got 3 cream leg...
Ok, thank you. Is it going to be ok to leave her in there alone for another 24 hours? And if so, should I put a little cap of food and water in with her? Also, is pasty butt an issue when in an incubator or does it not start til they start eating food? I put a mirror in there with her. I read...
So it looks like this little one will be the lone survivor. She is doing better, I say she because I hope it is. She is standing up and walking more, but I'm concerned that she has not completely fluffed up and it has been about 19 hours since she hatched. There were only two other eggs with her...
So the first of 3 eggs hatched this morning at 3:30. No problems getting out of the shell. However, it has been 8 hours and she is still not standing. She's moving around the incubator, but only by crawling. Is there likely something wrong that I can/should help her with, or is this normal? She...
Today is hatch day. The first of the three eggs that are in the incubator, pipped this evening, however, from what I'm seeing and reading, it was not in the right position to pip in the proper area of the egg, so instead it only had one external pip which I showed in the picture. Do I need to...
