Chick just hatched on day 21, unassisted with just this little piece of (what I assume is) yolk sac. How do I treat this? Leave it to dry out, gentle work in? Thanks.
I did not run my humidity too high or assist in anyway.
Thank you! This is so helpful, and must be why previous methods have not been successful. It has seemed to be painful to the chick to try, so I haven't done much. I will leave it be, and monitor. Better to let it dry than keep it moist?
Nothing new here, but wanted to post pics to see if anyone has any suggestions. Chick hatched overnight with no assistance, but was dragging quite a lot of egg gunk. After spending the night in the incubator, this is what is left. I have been trying to keep it moist and push it back in, but it...
I thought we only had one rooster in the spring hatch, but Bluey is looking a little boyish these days. They are 13 weeks old. My rooster already has his comb and waddle. Bluey’s comb is getting a bit more pronounced as they get older. Mixed breeds, Bluey came from a blue egg though! (If that is...
They seem to be doing good! Spunky, vocal and are getting around. Not walking perfectly or eating/drinking yet. I did try to give them a little drink of sugar water, but harder said than done. Bums seem to be closing up nicely.
I can see another external Pip on another egg, but it’s on the...
Oh dear, did I do the wrong thing? I was told by a seasoned chick hatcher to keep it moist and tuck it inside gently with a cuetip. Knowing my luck, I listened to the wrong advice.
Was able to push it back in, keeping it moist with coconut oil. The second one hatched as well, with an even worse prolapse. Humidity is at 60%. What am I doing wrong?
Not sure why I do this to myself! My second try hatching. I’m using a less than great incubator from a friend (never again). I had an early hatcher and went to candle my eggs before lockdown, and low and behold a Pip. Now my humidity is a wreck and had to assist this one as the membrane was hard...
Lil chick did not improve. It’s mobility wasn’t great and did not eat or drink on its own. I tried to feed sugar water and keep protrusion clean and dry. But neither helped. The sack got badly infected and leaked green fluid. Baby was starting to get lethargic, I made the tough call to end his...
Thank you, if it makes it through the night I’ll do sugar water tomorrow. I did put some Jack Newmans Nipple ointment on it. I figured if it was good enough to put on my nipple and safe for a newborn, it should be okay to put on a chick, haha. It has antibiotics and anti-fungal. All I could...
It’s still alive, peeping quite loudly consistently, so I know something is still upsetting it. I did work on trying to get some water and a little bit of moistened food into it and it is not peeping AS much. But when I could get some liquid in its mouth, it had a hard time swallowing. It will...
