Need a new, improved run. Pics please!

Truth. I'm not sure exactly how much we spent on materials for just the run. My father paid for the metal roof panels and refused to tell me the amount so I could repay him someway, some of the wood purchased for the run was actually used inside the shed. A lot of little things like screws...

Need a new, improved run. Pics please!

Zero issues. Its well braced to hold any snow load and sloped enough that anything liquid runs down the proper way . It also makes a pretty curl at the end when things start melting 😁

Need a new, improved run. Pics please!

4x6's and/or 4x4's for the base will help hold it steady. A solid well compacted ground base will also help. Lots of bracing if you arent burying support posts. My run doesnt have anything buried and it is not attached to the shed at all, there's about a half inch gap between the wall of the...

Two questions about 1/2" hardware cloth

Yes. And you can probably get that combo way cheaper on Amazon. This is similar to the one I got. And the shears that came with it are actually really good too.

How would you make this opening predator proof?

That’s actually pretty genius. I get tired of snagging my clothing on the random wire ends poking out from my pen’s door. I wonder if I could get this stuff to work with my door since the fit is so tight. I may just give it a try.

Two questions about 1/2" hardware cloth

You are lucky! We have a mom and pop type feed store within 15 minutes but they have scaled back and continue to scale back offerings as the owners and workers get older. Basically I can get bog standard layer pellets/crumble or chick starter crumble. All of good quality from a local mill tho...

How would you make this opening predator proof?

If you aren’t dead set on that specific run, keep looking and you can find ones with smaller gaps around the door. The one I got only had a slightly large gap at the top of the door that I didn’t do anything about because we don’t have any weasel type predators here.

Two questions about 1/2" hardware cloth

I used stainless steel zip ties placed every couple inches to attach hardware cloth to that type of run over the top of the manufacturer supplied chicken wire. I wove the zip ties in and out of the wire in a few places and carefully tightened the zip tie so as to not deform the wire. I also...

That must be single use cardboard…

Yoga mat or shelf liner for bottom of incubator?

It has a pump fed humidify control from the top, but has the chambers in the base that can also manually be filled if needed. So that’s why I wasn’t sure if I needed something more breathable. I don’t know yet if I’ll need to add the additional water to the base yet or not since this will be my...

Yoga mat or shelf liner for bottom of incubator?

My incubator delivered and I’ve set it up. I’ve been reading as much as I can since this will be my first time incubating eggs. I have an order for 60 quail eggs from MyShire that’s pending shipment. My question is can I use this foam yoga mat if I cut a piece to size to protect the...

The rats where I live are getting really big….

Maybe I should try to communicate tha fact in some way. I did get nervous watching thru the video, hoping his antlers wouldn’t get hooked in the hardware cloth. I imagine his panic at that happening could easily cause serious damage to the hardware cloth.

He didn’t manage to break into the run to eat the chicken food in the hanging buckets at least.

    Cornish cross hatching eggs?

I'm actually starting with hatching quail for now. I mostly just wanted to check my options as regular chicken hatching eggs are sorta a no go, we arent allowed roosters here. I suppose I could process any males before they started crowing, but that seems like a waste for layer type breeds...

    Cornish cross hatching eggs?

Man, my searching skills must be chicken poop poor. Cecal poop poor even. Meyer is my usual go to hatchery since they are closest to me. Dunno how I missed that listing. 🤦‍♀️ The prices start to get closer as you order more of both chicks or eggs tho.

    Cornish cross hatching eggs?

I can’t seem to find out why Cornish cross hatching eggs aren’t available for the back yard flock keeper to buy. Is it just that the big hatcheries that keep the parent flocks don’t want to deal with small orders?

    Chicken Math Got Me Bad....

And last night everyone was up on the roost or at least poop board. Maybe next weekend I’ll take the little brooder cage/feeding station out and just start mixing the chick crumbles with the adult pellets in the hanging feeders to use up the rest of the crumbles.
