    I agree. If you don't have time then do not take on another dog. Any dog will protect your chickens but YOU have to TEACH them that the chickens are important to you and therefore important to them.

    Yes they are bad, but they are part of the desert. I know nightime belongs to them and to keep my animals locked up. If they come in during the day, then we have a problem.

    We do have a Black Bear roaming our mountain range but I have not seen it. Mountain Lions and Bobcats are far more common.

    Definitely no free range when I'm not home. I lost 2 to hawks and 1 to a coyote. The same coyote came in and grabbed a turkey right in front of my wife in broad daylight! That coyote has been dealt with. I don't like killing a coyote for being a coyote but that was too bold.
