    Hens attack rooster

I had this problem once. I had to keep them separate until he was old enough to stand his ground a bit. They finally accepted him and in fact he is "the man" now. They love him and follow him everywhere. The main hen has become his shadow. I think the older girls taught him how to be a gentleman...

    Stray Rooster

People in my area abandon them often. In the woods around here they don't last long. I have had two wander up to our area so far. I have a beautiful extra rooster if anyone near smith mountain Va would give him a good home. One of my hens wanted to sit, which she does every year. I let her...

How to stop ascites fluid drip after draining? Anything that can be applied to the site safely?

Is there a way to put one down mercifully without bloodshed? I know my Rose is suffering with it even though is is eating like crazy and has a super attitude. I think drowning or suffocating has to be one of the worst.

Ascites? in desperate need of some help and guidance...

I have a hen with water belly. I have been draining her with the needle like that for over a year. She is now coming into more stress. It seems like its getting to the point where I can't help her much any more. In those pictures, I noticed it looks like the needle is put all the way in. I never...

    Molt thats not ending.

We had a super cold night last night and I bought her in. she doesn't have enough feathers to keep her warm in 10 degree weather. So here she is. This is so far from her normal self. I hope her normal feathers come in.

    Molt thats not ending.

Yes thats the one I heard about. She always has had a bit of a swirl in places in her feathering, but shredding feathers is a good description of whats coming in now. She has places with nothing coming back at all, like on her neck and some lower parts. She always had very thick feathers, but...

    Molt thats not ending.

About 6 weeks ago. And I have been giving them high protein food as well as the mealworm larve for more protein. I have made them a mash with some 40% cat food protein a few times to help boost them. The others are recovering very quickly, but not her.

    Molt thats not ending.

I have 15 chickens, they all went through or are going through molt. One of them, who started first is just not getting her feathers back. The ones that are back are ragged and curly looking. She is a lavender orpington. I have heard some of them have these strange feathering. I am concerned for...

PLEASE HELP! I don't know what this is.

Thank you. No, they are not moving around the heads. Open beak wheezing. It seems to have spread around. By the end of the day all of them had symptoms. I put some Doxy in their water with electrolytes and gave them Vet Rx as well. I never had anything like this before. They are usually so healthy.

thanks Ill try the coconut oil in some mash. I did give them VetRx and that seemed to help some. I threw away the food in their bin, just in case it was bad.

PLEASE HELP! I don't know what this is.

This morning when I went out to let out the chickens, one hen and my rooster are opening their mouths and making a sound, like wheezing. They are distressed. Only these two are doing this. Like something is caught in their throats? I examined the hen, nothing I can feel. I gave them all a left...

7 week bantam black Wyandotte. Gender?

Agree, looks like a pullet. The cockerels combs get very red and the wattles start coming out even when that age.

    OLDER HENS ATTACK NEW ROOSTER

I think your coop is very small for the amount of chickens you have. If you can expand the width of things, I think they will work things out in time. I have 11 established hens and brought in 4 newbies. I kept them apart but a fence between so they could get used to each other. It takes time...

    Rooster Attacks Only Legs?

I have heard from some people who have a lot of roosters, that your clothing can effect some of them. They can be afraid of some shoes and or pants. When they changed their pants the rooster was fine. Her previous pair was loose and floppy, so she changed to tighter ones. I would give it a try...

Questions on Broody if the chicks hatch

This is the first time I am letting this hen sit. She got broody same time last year and I spent time breaking her. I'm just to busy this year. I got a couple of eggs from my neighbors hens who stay with the rooster. If these hatch, do I need to keep chick feed in a separate place for the...
