Yes that boisterous puppy energy and just wanting to play is definitely not safe territory for chooks, however innocent! My wether sheep is proving incredibly tolerant, everyone else much less so. Glad your girl was okay!
Will do! I'm not sure yet what's the best way / the generally accepted way on this forum. Maybe I'll just keep this thread as a log of how we get on 😊
She's SO CUTE!
I'm not 100% sure yet but I think she's Fenn / Fenna. It's a bit unusual so I get a lot of raised eyebrows, but I still like it and nothing else sticks 🤷♀️
Quick update to say my dog arrived almost two weeks ago and while I'm a little overwhelmed, we're doing good 😊 I might start another thread over in the appropriate place to introduce her and track how we get on with the multi-species coexistence.
Thank you so much for sharing, and sorry for your loss. I LOVE how you describe your relationship with Lady and Mac, and the love you have for your birds. Inspiring!
Yikes! Scary! My dog is a retriever shepherd mix so hopefully soft mouthed... Although I hope she will never ever have a chicken in her mouth.
And yes, I think chasing and playing with the chickens can also be bad. They could easily harm themselves while panicking, or have a heart attack or...
Thanks! Their bedding is not wet and the roosts are smooth but they spend most of their time outside where it can be wet, and she has had some health challenges and a rough moult so she's been lying more than usual. I'll keep an eye on it and keep spraying with disinfectant 👍🏽
Hi,
Ursule has a strange... Wound... Blister... Abcess? On her chest/keel bone. The skin looks strange and flaky as well as too shiny and thin, there's no feathers, there are some yellow scabs, and there is an oval slightly elevated area that makes it seem like there might be pus or liquid...
I'd love to follow your chicken and Sheepadoodle adventures. I have had chickens for years, as pets really, and I'm getting a mini Sheepadoodle puppy in a few weeks. I'm kind of terrified of her harming the chickens so I'll do lots of training. My hope is the same as yours!
She's beautiful! And sweet, but dignified and somwhat demanding - talks to us all the time to demand treats or new areas to roam... whereas the buff cochin and Polish are really just sweet :)
