Wish my baby luck shell accidentally got broken by hen so I took it out and now am keeping it warm but I don't have my incubator as my daughter borrowed it and she lives over 2 hours away. Heating packs and microwaved moist wash so hopefully it will live
I have had early quitters in the incubator so I had 2 broody Bantams placed 7 EE mix eggs and they all hatched even though it has been cold here. So I have been looking at adjusting my incubator settings and maybe try a dry hatch
My cats stay clear of the chickens as they have been pecked before and they leave the chicks alone because a momma hen is vicious to a predator she deems a threat to her chicks
I tried separating the hens more than once they would end up together again. They are mean when broody you have to wear gloves to do anything because of this I left them alone. Chick is doing good gave electrolyte and vitamin supplement she has mushy food though not interested yet but has had...
I too took the chicks away but it snowed here today. The hens would not have been happy cooped in my basement. I live in Maine so as soon as they had to leave the nest it would have been too cold even inside the coop with a brood heater.
I have lost one that left the nest early and was killed by another hen(bad mother too) unfortunately it happens. I'm nursing a new hatch now whose mother attacked it. It's doing well so far but it will be a testy few days yes I pulled the other 2 eggs presently hatching.
No I put eggs from my other hens with the couple eggs they had. They have been sitting on these eggs from day one. I have switched eggs before my jersey giant went broody and all I had fertile were Bantam eggs she raised the 3 she hatched as her own. I have also taken from a not so good brooder...
I went out to check because I knew chicks were starting to pip well the mother hens pecked at the newly hatched chick. I should add these are 2 broody Bantams sitting in the same nesting box sharing eggs and the eggs were put under them as soon as they went broody this is an olive Egger chick I...
I took remaining ready to hatch eggs and some that are due to hatch in 7 days as these were under 2 broody Bantams sitting in same nesting box left the Bantam eggs. I cleaned with veterinary bentadine and put a small amount of Bacitracin it is just hatched and is moving and peeping as a new...
