Missing feathers at base of back and now open wound?

Thank you for your response! I went to tractor supply to see what they had and picked up “Banixx for Chixx” pecking sore spray, so fingers crossed that helps. I hadn’t heard of the pinless peepers until another person suggested it - I’ll definitely look into those. The run is 12’ x 12’. What...

Missing feathers at base of back and now open wound?

I haven’t been able to watch them very closely lately so I will try to observe them some more this weekend and see if anyone is being a bully. Thank you for the suggestions of the saddles and peepers! I just picked up some “Banixx for Chixx” pecking sore spray at tractor supply and will clean...

Missing feathers at base of back and now open wound?

I’ve tried to observe them more today and I haven’t noticed any mounting. I did notice one of the other hens pecking at the areas as they were all dust bathing. Not really in an aggressive way, in sort of a curious way. So I’m not sure if that’s why the sore opened up on the one?

Missing feathers at base of back and now open wound?

Hi there. Out of my small flock of 5, I noticed yesterday that 2 are missing feathers at the base of their back, above where the tail starts. I checked them all for lice/mites and didn’t see any. Made sure they had plenty of dust bath and didn’t think much more about it. Today one of the girls...

    E. Coli Infection in Trachea and Capallaria Parasites - Please advise

Wow, interesting. Thank you - this is much more information than I got directly from the vet! Do you have an opinion on what to do moving forward with the remaining flock? No one else has shown any respiratory symptoms surprisingly. Only lethargic, green watery stools, and no eggs. One in...

    E. Coli Infection in Trachea and Capallaria Parasites - Please advise

Hi there - thank you SO much for taking the time to respond and kind condolences. Yes, 5 days of fenbendazole is what I used on the rest of the flock once we received the report of the capillaria worms so hopefully that was taken care of. 🤞 Re: Necropsy - so are you thinking they may have not...

    E. Coli Infection in Trachea and Capallaria Parasites - Please advise

Hello all - A little over a month ago I made the very regretful mistake of introducing 7 new pullets (age 12 weeks) to my original flock of 10 (age 2 years) without giving them a proper "quarantine period." Horrific, unfortunate, lesson learned. I had them all in the same run, although I had...

    E. coli and possible septicemia- please advise on treatment protocol, antibiotic && natural + supplements.

Hi there - I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through this too. I am going through something very similar in my flock… I have lost two girls so far, a necropsy on one tested positive for E. Coli as well. Did the antibiotics you used help? Also do you mind sharing more about the RSA testing you...

Sudden respiratory distress - please help!

Thank you so very much for your response and info. I will continue with the Tiagard and was also able to find an avian vet that I will take them to tomorrow morning for testing to find out for sure so I’m not guessing moving forward. Really appreciate you taking the time to respond!!

Sudden respiratory distress - please help!

Hi all - last week I introduced some new girls into our existing flock. I noticed one of the new girls was acting pretty sick - puffed up, lethargic, wouldn’t eat, etc. Separated her and unfortunately she did not make it. Yesterday I noticed 3 of my existing hens acting sick as well. Respiratory...

Thank you!!! Can I continue to add the ACV still be added to the water with the Corid? Or do you advise only adding the Corid until this (hopefully) clears up.

Surprising red/orange mucus in poop - please advise!

Thank you so very much for all of the thorough information!! If none are acting sick, do you think it is safe to just proceed with Corid treatment before doing the antibiotic? Or would you go ahead with an antibiotic as well out of caution?

Surprising red/orange mucus in poop - please advise!

Thank you so much for your fast response! Re: location - we live in Beaufort, South Carolina. Is "corid" the coccidiostat you would advise using? I have ordered that and it should be delivered tomorrow. I will also pick up a sulfa antibiotic.

My young chickens are pooping red orange and stringy! Help!

Hi there! Did you ever get an answer as to what this was? I am having a similar discovery with my flock and am a bit worried. Did you wind up treating in any way? Thanks in advance!

Surprising red/orange mucus in poop - please advise!

We are very new to backyard chickens but so far have successfully raised 8 newborn chicks to be an 8 week old happy healthy flock! One turned out to be a rooster, so about a week ago we gave him back to the farm we got them from, and they were kind enough to trade us a hen who they estimated to...
