I have a concrete floor in my coop and have been using pine shavings. If I switch to horse stall pellets I've heard to wet it first? And how deep a layer should there be? Thanks.
I've had my 15 8 week old chicks penned next to my 4 year old hens for 2 weeks. Yesterday morning I made an opening big enough for the chicks to go through but too small for the hens. A couple chicks have ventured in with the older ones but they are chased back into their little area. My...
I will tomorrow. I ordered 15 mixed unsexed chicks, dual purpose brown egg layers from Hoovers Hatchery and I have 3 that look like this. I'm thinking this one is a roo.

I was so excited to find my first egg from my cinnamon queen pullets the day before yesterday. Today I got another mini egg, same nest box and think I know which was it is. It's gonna take 2 of these cute eggs to equal 1 but I don't care. Now for the others to start laying. Their combs have...
I had chickens year ago and never had a problem except an owl tried to pick a hen up. Of course then raccoons were hunted for their fur. Now we are overrun with the little buggers. They destroyed our sweet corn crop a few years ago. I appreciate your advice. Thanks so much!
I had a raccoon kill 18 of my young 12 week old chicks. My hubby caught the momma because she couldn't get back in after we put chicken wire over the top of the run after that but then the next night she came back with her 3 kids and he watched them squeeze through a little 6" square opening...
