Okay, I was thinking if we would do sand, I would scoop out all the poop and if pea gravel I could hose off with the garden hose, but drainage would privabky be needed in both scenarios... then I also have to think about cost, we don't have too much extra to spend right now. Wood chips sound...

So we upped our flock to 12 now, we have built a larger run, half of it roofed over and the other covered in fencing, there is also space under the coop itself... in the area that us unroofed, I had built fodder boxes for a steady foraging opportunity, under the coop I'd like to...
I guess we're in this together then, lol! So far theyvseem to be pretty good birds, time will tell as they get older... I do miss my barred rocks though, I really wanted silver laced waynedottes this year too but it was not a good year to be picky about breeds with all the chicks selling out so...
Thank you for this! I must have missed this thread! ☺️ Hopefully they will be alot like my barred rocks were... I had a hard time finding any of them this year, so far they are starting to look a good bit like barred rocks but they have a lot more white on them. They are also pretty docile birds...

I just got 12 rustic rocks from tractor supply, I will keep everyone posted. Usually I order through a local hatchery but all are sold out of females.. they must be having a hard time keeping up.
We ordered our barred rocks a few years ago, we won't get the assortment though it's a shame they don't offer specific breeds anymore. I think they are having a hard time keeping up this year.
