    Growing fodder for chickens

The cat needs the grass also---for digestion. Not playing--he's trying to eat some.

    My Tilley, dying

I'm sorry to hear that your chook is in distress. It is sad. But they do die....We all have been there. Some can afford to do the vet thing; some are able to 'put them out of their misery'. But, I had a two & a half year old leghorn die just last week. I wasn't able to end her suffering...

Really bad experience with EXOTIC NUTRITION buying mealworms--never again!

I paid extra for Priority Shipping---my order shipped postage due---$4.30!!! I was at a doctor appointment---so the worms were not left!!!! That was three days ago!!! I suppose the dead worms are in a trash can at the P.O. Exotic Nutrition is stating the hot weather policy; saying I should...

    Dog waterers for chickens?

Luv my rain barrel too! Only looks clay--actually heavy duty plastic! I can roll it around & rinse it out once in a while! I got it online at Home Depot, they didn't have them in the stores.

My Coop is done here is a pic of my auto cup waterer!!!

Just a thought......the gravity might be too much on the cups coming from above.......unless you can reduce the pressure with some sort of valve....

    Dog waterers for chickens?

Whew! Ok, sorry I got the 1st two pictures so big! Then I redid the last one so maybe it was easier to see! I got all my ideas from this forum, so if you look around you may find a setup that works better for you. I got these cups from Randall Burkey Supply, however I'm sure they are sold...

    Dog waterers for chickens?

My girls have nipples and the drinking cups on a pvc pipe. They prefer the drinking cups--bar none. I have no more washing or carrying water ever! They are not maintenance free; I decided nothing is, but they are way easier than most. Happy Chickens!

Looking for a definitive answer, 1/2" x 1/2" welded wire mesh vs. 1/2" x 1" welded wire mesh

Good point, 'bout coating... just throwing my 2 cents----why coating? It will not last. What does it add? I'd rather $$ go into good wire, not maybe less quality 'coated wire'.....just sayin'

I'm not imagining it--my beloved hen is mad at me!!!

Thanks froggiesheins!! I remember reading a thread about a woman who offered her distraught friend a chicken to hug. And I got from her post, that the friend didn't 'get it'!!! HUGGING YOUR CHICKENS IS GREAT THERAPY !!! I am caring for my Mother in my home in her final days, and I'm more...

I'm not imagining it--my beloved hen is mad at me!!!

I can't believe I'm sayin' this--but my little girl is snubbing me! She is a little over a year old, and I raised her from the egg! I have always been able to call to her and pick her up--like you would a puppy!! Now, she walks away and won't come to me at all!!! I know have have been...

I just had a seemingly perfectly healthy leghorn die........

Thank you speckledhen for this information. I would like to think the food had nothing to do with this hen's death. This helps.

Thanks all... Sorry to hear others have had deaths as well; nice to have a place to share. I also for the 1st time had a few cucumber peelings in the mix..... I am vowing no vegetable peelings at all---ever again. Anyone had trouble w/ tomato peels????? I kinda wish I had opened her...

I just had a seemingly perfectly healthy leghorn die........

Thanks NovaAman. But can potatoes be that deadly? I can't imagine anything else. And it was such a small amount between 29 chickens! Heck, I guess if it was the potato; I'm lucky only one died..... She was a great layer, was gonna be 2 yeas old in October. She was one of the first hens I...

I just had a seemingly perfectly healthy leghorn die........

Within the past hour to an hour and a half, one of my beautiful leghorns died. And it may be my fault. I had read so much about not feeding potato peelings. And I didn't. I fed the scraps of a BAKED potato---along with other things that I collect in a tupperware as per usual...

What am I doing wrong--no eggs from my beetles??!

Thanks ALL!! I took the heat lamp off! They seemed to have slowed their movements some. I haven't cleaned out anything; 'cept the dried up potatoes & carrots. So, I thought in 2 months time, approximately, something--should be squirming around in there..... Maybe I am just being...
