    Kiddie Pool for Emus??

Does anyone have any suggestions as to a certain type/brand of kiddie pool I can purchase for my emus? They absolutely love splashing around in the summer but are now too big to fit into a bucket. I’m hoping to find one that isn’t super slippery on the bottom and is big enough so they can step...

    Emus with Chickens

Sorry this is late I have 2 emus that live with my chickens. They were introduced to the chickens when they were babies. When they were under a year old they would get playful and chase the chickens but once they got to be over a year they settled down and kind of just ignored them. A place for...

Sick rooster, messy butt and scaly leg mites?

I felt his crop this morning and it was full! Thank you for bringing that to my attention. Gave him coconut oil and massaged his crop. I’m hoping he’ll get better but I might have to make him throw up.

Sick rooster, messy butt and scaly leg mites?

One of my roosters is suddenly acting weak. He has a messy butt, but it does not look like it is clogged. When I picked him up he also vomited clear liquid. Below is a picture of his feet, could this be scaly leg mites? If so, is that what is causing his sickness? Not too long ago I noticed...

Any cold weather emu owners here?

I’m afraid they would peck and pull at the heat lamps, but warm waters a good idea.

Any cold weather emu owners here?

Its been particularly cold recently, with the lows dropping to 4 degrees (F). I’ve noticed my older emu who’s about 1.5 years old has been acting like he’s cold a lot, he shivers even when he’s lying down and when he walks in the snow I can tell it bothers his feet, what’s the chance of...

Pros and Cons to Keeping Emu....help, please.

Keep in mind the males are more timid and less aggressive than the females. They need lots of room and foraging space to be happy. If you live somewhere hot, they love water to swim in or just getting hosed down. They love to socialize so definitely get more than one. Mine never try to jump the...

    Question about Emu Behavior

He was marked with a band when we got him. I did some research comparing his sound to those of other emus, and found his call is more of a grunt rather than the boom/drum of a female. If I have any more suspicions then, yes, I’ll get him DNA tested but I’m pretty sure he’s male. One more...

    Question about Emu Behavior

I have a video of him making noise, but I’m not sure how to post videos on BYC since I don’t have YouTube ): I’ll just assume he’s a male for now, unless I find a clutch of eggs!

    Question about Emu Behavior

I can’t be sure if what I felt was just fat or the sack. Anyway, I contacted the breeder we got him from, and he said they were genetically sexed. There’s a 1-2% chance its wrong but I think it’s unlikely. Guess I just got a really strange emu. Thanks for all the info and help!

    Question about Emu Behavior

The person we bought him from said he was a male, but he was a baby at the time. And he’s doing all the behaviors you described…oh geez.

    Question about Emu Behavior

My older emu who is a little over 1.5 years old has adopted a strange behavior. Whenever he is around my dad he curls his head, fluffs out his neck feathers (it looks like he’s wearing a boa), and struts around, making grunting and booming noises and following him wherever he goes. When I happen...

    New Emu mom!

My recommendation is to give him access to food and water as much as possible. Emus have a tendency to knock over their bowls though, so either attach it to something steady or watch it while it eats. If the emu chick is healthy, it should eat and drink as much as it needs. We feed our a mix of...
