Thats what I thought but I wasn't sure....They were abandoned and we wanted to make sure we knew what they were to try and rehome 😔

Newly hatched chick has something wrong with it

Currently hatching out eggs in an incubator. This is the second chick to hatch. Anyone have any idea what this is and what I should do? Contrary to how this picture looks it's moving around fine and seems normal. I still have chicks hatching so I don't want to open the incubator if I don't...

Run is up against my house

We have our run against our barn because we converted a stall into a coop. My husband just used wood beams every so often and put hardware cloth all around includingathe top. We have all 4 seasons and it's held up for over 5 years now. But I also want to comment about rats...make sure you...

How to tell if a easter egger roo carries the blue egg gene?

Thank you all so much for the info. I dont know why it didn't occur to me that a DNA service for chickens could exist but I'm glad I know now. I will definitely get him tested so I know 100% what he's got 😊😊

How to tell if a easter egger roo carries the blue egg gene?

Hi everyone. I'm trying to breed for varied and fun egg colors for my barnyard mix flock. I have an easter egger rooster (sold as an "americana" from hoovers hatchery so just an easter egger from what I understand now) I was wondering if there were any ways to tell if he carries the blue egg...

    Power outage.

Thank you for the responses. I just went ahead and had my husband hook up the generator. Their temp was plummiting and I would have been too worried letting it go any longer. Hopefully they will still be viable to hatch 😬

    Power outage.

Hi! I'm looking for advice. I am on day 3 of incubation. My power went out due to a storm about a half hour ago. Power company said it could be hours. I have a generator I could get running but I would rather use that for fridges and freezers of need be. I also have a greenhouse that is...

    Goose sitting in hayfield....

I'll pick up some corn tomorrow if the weather holds off. We've been snowed in for days. I'm wondering if the bad weather just has it lost? My husband asked a few neighbors but nobody is missing a goose. Hmmm

    Goose sitting in hayfield....

Thank you all for the advice. I have chicken feed i put about 15 feet from it so hopefully that keeps it alive in this weather. It was not happy I got close lol 😆 it moved about 50 yards so I don't think it has a nest.

    Goose sitting in hayfield....

Hi! We have a random lone goose who has been hanging out in the same spot for 2 days now in our hay field. It doesn't seem sick or injured... I don't want to approach it, but also worry it will get eaten by something if it continues to sit out in the open. Any thoughts about why this goose...

    help ID my rooster

I was under the impression that "olive eggers" were mixed with dark egg layers specifically like marans- where easter eggers aren't. Is that not the case?

    help ID my rooster

I was going to say it looks similar to my easter egger rooster but the comb is definitely different. Maybe an olive egger rooster?

Rooster or hen? Plus what are the barnyard mixes 😊

Thanks so much for all the info. I need to do a little more learning about the differences between the amerucana/easter eggers and americanas. They were definitely sold as amerucana. But honestly breed doesn't matter to me I just like to have fun egg colors but it's good to know what I have 😊😊

    Hawk harassing my hens.

So glad your chicks were ok... hawks can be so bold. We been dealing with a hawk problem too. I lost 3 chickens in two weeks. I went out one day and the hawk was just hanging out in front of my barn. I watched it take a chick from my neighbors yard a week ago 😭 My chickens are locked in their...

Rooster or hen? Plus what are the barnyard mixes 😊

Hi I have 3 chickens i'd like yall to look at. The first one with the black is an amerucana. Is it a rooster? The other 2 are barnyard mix I let one of my broody girls hatch. I'm not sure if the darker one is a rooster either. Also im curious about the breed mixes. My rooster is a saphire olive...

    First hatch was a success

Thank you so much! I think you might be right about the easter egger- I know my starlight green eggers looked very similar as chicks but I just have no clue. I am now crossing my fingers for Marans because I have always wanted some - there are two of those little brown cuties they hatched after...

    Is this normal?

If you have a rooster it could be from him. Also- I would check them for any lice/mites.
