We have a mama hen who hatched 11 eggs successfully. We kept her and her chicks inside while we were upgrading the coop. She is a very good mama, and cares for her babies very much. But when we took her outside with her chicks and put them in the pen, she started pecking at them viciously...
I have Heard of quail eggs from your local supermarket hatching! Is this even possible? Could there have been an issue in sexing the chicks? Possibly putting the rooster in with the hens? Any thoughts on possible fertilized eggs at a supermarket? Has anybody successfully hatched any store-bought...
so.. how long does it take for a young hen/chick to begin laying eggs? Also I’ve read about hens laying rlly small eggs when their reproduction systems haven’t quiet fully developed, is this common? If you haven’t heard of this before, I encourage you to look it up. 🥚🐓❤️
So we had 12 fertile eggs, and about a week before they hatched, one was eaten, (prob by the other hen who was not broody) any ideas why? Was something wrong with the developing chick and the hens instinctually ate it in order to avoid attracting predators?
I’ve got a broody hen with 11 chicks, I think she’s stressed out and dehydrated because her comb is very pale. Any ideas on how I could get some water into her?
