Just F.Y.I. - I've heard that okra is a dangerous veggie for any bird, because of it's slimy consistency. The birds supposedly have a tough time swallowing it and can choke...
Yes, they were all supposedly pullets - this one "hen" is definitely the dominant girl in the group. There are no signs of her being a rooster, other than she's a tad bit bigger than the others. No sign of spurs or anything. I'm keeping an eye on her, and we'll see if she turns into a Roo! If...
My buff orpingtons and RIR hens have been raised together, and seem to do really well. One of the RIR hens is at the top of the pecking order, but because the buffs are so much larger, they don't get picked on too badly.
I've got 6 two-month-old pullets - 3 americanas and 3 barred rocks. I've moved them into the "nursery" section, where they can see and watch the flock, safe behind a chicken-wire fence. This morning, one of the americana's stretched up her neck and made a strangling noise that I SWEAR sounded...

I did...
Well, after resting overnight, she's looking better. Just checked on her, and she's moving around a bit and seems more alert. Will give diluted cider vinegar water, as suggested, and scrambled egg to see if she will eat. Haven't checked her vent yet - will get back to you on that (she is settled...
Help! I have a young pullet who is dear to my heart and she has a prolapsed vent! She just began laying this week. When I discovered her trouble, she had pushed out an egg that was encased in a thin membrane that was still attached to her. Along with the "egg sack" there was also what appears to...
