    What should I do?

I figured I'd post an update how the little guy is doing. I named him Smokey, and he'll be turning 6 weeks old on Tuesday. Him, along with the 4 Hoover's Hatchery "Americanas", are all doing good. Just about ready to move out to the coop permanently. 😁 Smokey's father is a 1 year old Sapphire...

    What should I do?

I stopped at TSC this morning, all they had were straight runs. So I end up getting 4 ameraucanas. I feather sexed them when I got home. The 3 lighter colored ones appear to be pullets. The brown one may be a roo. Worst case scenario, I'll have to make a bachelor pad. We'll see how it goes. But...

    What should I do?

I don't, no. I wish I did. If I don't see any pips by tomorrow in the other eggs, I'm going to TSC. I just can't see that little guy/gal growing up alone. Even if that means having 2 flocks of chickens, so be it. 😃

    What should I do?

😁 I have a stuffed owl in with them for now. I was thinking about a mirror too.

    What should I do?

I'll have to give them a try. I feel really bad for the little booger. Thanks

    What should I do?

The problem is, the only store near me that sells chicks, that I know of, is TSC. And they have a 4 chick minimum. I may have to check to see if they even have any available. I don't know anyone near me with chickens. And none of my hens are broody at the moment. But if anyone in the southern...

    What should I do?

I am leaning heavy to the having 2 flocks side of the fence. Maybe giving a few of my established hens. Yeah, I really don't want to raise him alone though.

    What should I do?

Background: I have an established flock of 14 hens and 1 rooster. Ages range from nearly 3 years old to 1 year. Their coop is 10ft x 18ft, and their run is 20ft x 30 ft. I have their first coop (4ft x 8ft), that I built, in the middle of their run. I have not been free-ranging them due to the...

    Plymouth Rock gone broody???

I noticed today, that 1 of my Barred Plymouth Rocks was hanging out in the nest box longer than usual. I didn't think much of it at the time, so I left her alone. She entered the nest box around 10:50am. As I went to close up the coop at 4:30pm, she was still in the box. Every time I got near...

    Cinnamon Queen gasping

Oh, I understand. I wasn't criticizing, I just came to the conclusion, that no one on here saw this before. Thank you to everyone who responded. I will look into Tylosin. God bless.

    Cinnamon Queen gasping

I kept my girls in the coop for most of today. The weatherman was calling for freezing rain and snow. And my run is uncovered. Lucy looked pretty bad this morning. It took her a while to snap out her gasping. But when she did, she walked over to the waterer and drank. And she even pecked at one...

    Cinnamon Queen gasping

The closest thing I have seen to coughing or sneezing, is that little head jerk you can see in the beginning of the video I posted earlier, "Lucy Before Bed". I used the flashlight on my phone, and put in on the outside of her throat. I looked down her throat while she was gasping, I didn't see...

    Cinnamon Queen gasping

I've been checking inside her mouth, and down her throat. I have not seen any lesions. I have been feeling her body daily, I have not noticed any bubbles or anything that felt unusual. Yes, her crop is empty in the morning. She starts first thing in the morning, usually before food and drink...

    Cinnamon Queen gasping

I've noticed her gasping is more frequent when it's colder out, especially in the morning and evening. She also starts when she gets worked up, like when I go to pick her up.

    Cinnamon Queen gasping

She was laying before this all started. She started laying around 19 weeks old. And the eggs were around medium size, but otherwise normal. And yes her crop empties overnight. Like I said, she is pooping. I will take a video in the morning and add the link to this post. *She has, as far as I...

    Cinnamon Queen gasping

I have a 7 month old Cinnamon Queen hen, named Lucy, that has been gasping for air for going on 2 weeks now. What is strange, is it is not all the time. She will sit under the coop for a while, just gasping and wheezing. Her comb and wattles start to turn purple. But then she will just snap out...
