    Help! Chick with wonky legs

He’s in a batch with 24 other chicks and there’s 2 others identical to him so he’s been kinda difficult to keep track of. However I did dip his beak in their water a couple times after his massage and I haven’t really seen him stuck again. He’s up and eating and I only saw him down once with his...

    Help! Chick with wonky legs

Update: little guy just woke up from a nap and took a few steps before laying back down. He did poop a normal looking green hatchling poop during his belly massage. Will probably give him one more massage later tonight and update in the morning!

    Help! Chick with wonky legs

I don’t think it’s splay bc the legs are straight out to the front, not to the sides. He can’t bring them in to his body. I’ve had a handful of splay babies and they were easy fixes with bands.

    Help! Chick with wonky legs

I’m not sure. Would that prevent him from walking? Is there a way to fix that?

    Help! Chick with wonky legs

I have a chick that hatched last night, he hasn’t walked yet and he can’t seem to get his legs under him. He just kicks them straight out in front of him. When he does try and move the legs just kind of kick like he’s trying to scoot back. Any idea on how I can help him?

    English orps for meat?

Thank you so much! I agree, my EO have been the sweetest layers I’ve ever had. Just about jumping in my lap when I’m outside. My oldest is 5 and she still lays too! I read that they were a dual purpose bird(idk how factual that is) so I figured I’d give it a go instead of being stuck with a...

    English orps for meat?

So I have a flock of pure English Orpingtons and I’m planning to hatch a couple batches. I’d like to keep them until they’re sexable, sell the pullets and butcher the cockerels. I’ve only kept silkies and layers until now so any pointers would be great! I’m Interested in finding a way to grow...

    Frizzled NN hen or roo?

These are his baby pics at abt a week old, a buddy of mine hatched him and brought him and his brother to me when they were 3 days old. She bought them from sunset hill farms, the big project breeder. However I’m not sure what project group he came from. I would guess a Mille satin group since...

    Frizzled NN hen or roo?

Thanks! He’s been separated from my other frizzles but i am keeping him with one of my partridge silkie hens. I’m hoping to get some frizzle babies out of him! Can anyone confirm that he is also a partridge? It’s kinda hard for me to tell with all that curl lol.

    Staggered hatch question

Absolutely! I’ve seen people use soft mesh bags for separating eggs of different breeds that look similar and they hatched inside just fine. I figured it was worth a shot. I have eggs coming out my ears rn and the worst case scenario is the younger embryos don’t hatch.

    Staggered hatch question

Yes like a netted bag for apples or something. It’s breathable, soft and would keep the younger eggs entirely separate from the hatching eggs.

    Staggered hatch question

The eggs have exactly 2 weeks left. I was going to try bagging the new eggs and putting them on one side of the incubator, hand turning them if necessary. Would a 10% increase in humidity for no more than 3 days potentially kill the new embryos? My hatches usually are only 24 hours from start to...

    Staggered hatch question

Yes I have a turner that holds the eggs in place I can place older eggs on one side and new eggs on the other. I could also bag the younger eggs and hand turn them if needed.

    Frizzled NN hen or roo?

Thought this would be an interesting update. This guy indeed turned out to be a rooster. He developed into a gorgeous young man with an awesome mowhawk. Definitely was slow to mature and just started to crow last week. He’s about 6 months now and is still a total sweetheart. Since I have...

    Staggered hatch question

I started a batch of eggs about a week ago, they are silkie and silkie mixes. With winter my roosters fertility has dropped quite a bit so out of 20 eggs I only ended up with 9 developing. The rest didn’t even start. I was hoping for a bigger hatch than that so my question is could I add more...

    Frizzled NN hen or roo?

Thank you, normally I wouldn’t care so much, but I have a sizzle hen and I don’t want to risk this frizzle being a rooster and get frazzle babies

    Frizzled NN hen or roo?

It was hatched the first week of may, So 4 months august 1st. I’m leaning pullet only because I have a full sibling as well as he’s 100% a boy. He has a much larger comb and very pronounced wattles and saddle feathers already and has had them since about 8 weeks. This baby I had written down as...
