Free ranging chickens! Q and A ( my experience)

I free ranged my chickens at 7 weeks old. It was my first time owning chickens and I had placed them in a bad location and they got under some gaps in my fence as youngsters and I’m assuming paid the price with neighbors dog farm although I’m not 100% sure about that, but I moved them to a...

    My chickens hate me

Yeah my chickens are kind of scared of me too but they're all young hens so hoping they lighten up a bit when they get older. I'm the nicest owner too? I even put ice in their water feeder and give them watermelon and meal worms and run misters in this terrible heat? Their coop is high dollar...

Free ranging chickens! Q and A ( my experience)

Also how many chickens do you guys have in your free range flocks? I currently have 8 hens 4 NHR's and 4 Ameroucanas. Was thinking of adding some buff orpingtons and a couple more Ameroucanas for 12-15 hens. They free range on about 3/4 of my 1 acre parcel. I have 2 coops with total capacity of...

I think they might have got under my fence and got killed by neighbors dangerous dogs they...

New to chickens and have predator problem

Wow thanks a lot folks for all of the posts! So my coop is predator proof for anything around here with maybe the exception of a really big dog. And the chickens both disappeared middle of the day when I let the hens free range until it starts to get dark. I do leave the door of the coop open...

New to chickens and have predator problem

I also wanted to mention that I really don’t have any gaps in my fence where a cat could even drag a chicken though so I’m dumbfounded by what this could be other than a bird of prey of some sort. The fence is 5’ tall. I will report back if I can figure it out

New to chickens and have predator problem

Hello, so I decided to get some chickens about 10 weeks ago or so. I started with 6 hens and raised them to about 7 weeks old and then turned them loose on my 1 acre of chain link fenced, grass type property. It’s a great place for chickens and I was hoping to let them free range. Anyway they...
