    Who came from who?

I have three hens and two roosters. One of my hens is a crested cream legbar, the next one is a light brahma, and the last one is a splash orpington. Both of my roosters are silkies, but one is black and one is white. Recently, I hatched 8 chicks. I'm wondering who the mother and father of each...

    Baby Chick Setup ideas

We are planning to put wire on the top so the chick can't get out. We only had one egg that ended up hatching, so that's why we only have one chick.

    Baby Chick Setup ideas

We are going to be getting a singular one week old chick. There is going to be bedding placed where the cardboard is and there will be food and water on the wood plank. Is there anything else we could add to make the chick more comfortable?

    Sex Linking

I think my white rooster has the recessive C gene because the babies hatched were not white. Other than one chick with black and white feathers, I have no white chickens. I will attach pictures of each baby individually. I'm not exactly sure who was the mother of some of these.

    Sex Linking

I have two silkie roosters, one is white and the other is black. I'm not sure which one is the dad to my chickens, but I'm taking a guess and saying it's the white one because he is the dominant rooster and I see him mount much more than I see the black one mount. I'll attach pictures of both...

    Sex Linking

I have an auto-sex hen, a purebred crested cream legbar, that had some babies. We believe that her babies are sex-linked, but I have a question about my other hens and their babies. We have two other hens: a splash orpington and a light brahma. Both of them also hatched babies. Both of our...

Newly added chicken & behavior changes

Hens that are egg bound often act sick. They don't make much movement and don't get up to eat or drink. A couple popular ways to try to loosen the vent area are soaking the chicken's vent area in warm water or putting vaseline on the vent. You can also look other ways up.

New here is this a hen or rooster?

That is a rooster. The comb is very red, and the tail feathers make a sickle, though it's slight.

    Is this pre broody behavior?

She is most likely about to start brooding. If that's the case, it also sounds like you may have fertilised eggs! Good luck hatching if you want baby chicks!!

Newly added chicken & behavior changes

    1. There is often a top hen, and "rankings" in the hens. Bringing a rooster in could affect their attitude because they now care more about who the top hen is. This is because they have a rooster to impress. 2. It is normal for chickens to not lay when under stress, but also do check to make...

    Please help!! Red faces

It looks fine to me. It could just be part of the growth process. Do you own other chickens of that breed? If so, do they have the same redish look to them?

    Game hen or Bantam EE?

This chick looks like a girl. Her tail feathers do not shape into a sickle, but more of a triangular shape. For the particular breed I am thinking she is, she looks like a female. The "eyeliner" that is around their eyes means they are most likely a girl, as the boys do not have that. I have...

    Air sack

When I hatched chicken eggs, the egg that had a larger air sack ended up not making it. It looked completely healthy other than the air sack. It hatched, but the baby ended up dying. It was too weak. That may be the case with your egg, but I'm speaking from chicken egg experience, not duck.
