    Opossum attack

Even my horse vet tells me a good possum is a dead possum. They carry a bad virus in their poo, same with coons. I always keep my Mr. Shotty loaded and ready. I incubated 5 eggs and one hatched this morning. I'm sure the rest of coming, I hear them. Keep up the good work.

    New girls laid one

I have seen rubber eggs many times as that is their first one. This time I didn't see it but I think it's quite normal. Your feed is wonderful. Once they start laying they are the best layers as far as I'm concerned. Are you safe from fire?

Hi. Is it common for a new layer to lay a nice egg then not the following day? It's been in the 20s here. She free ranges but I don't see any laying around. She used her nesting box yesterday. Been a while since I had new layers. RIR

What did you do in the garden today?

Sunday morning I weedwhacked around my tomatoes without eyewear on. STUPID. Was in the ER Sunday night with a scratched cornea. I know better than that. My tomatoes are almost done. Great year for them and frankly I'm sick to death of them. Cousins keep dropping off their extra maters good...

Chickens afraid of coop after raccoon attacks

It is frustrating isn't it. I battle coons, coyotes, hawks, eagles. I've had to start over more times than I can count. I'm down to one laying hen, two roosters and two guineas. Neighbors gave me two chicks which I hope are pullets. I'm used to starting over. I made a run for them but they...

Chickens afraid of coop after raccoon attacks

I have watched cats run foxes off. I imagine the fox was after the cat to eat it though so yes I think foxes do eat cats.
