I did not see the attack, or the animal responsible.. but my duck is missing a large chunk of feathers on her neck and it looks like she has some dried blood and possible puncture wounds to her head and neck area. I examined her very closely and it doesn’t look like the wounds are deep, but it...
We were never able to determine what killed them, but we did narrow it down to either a hawk or a mink. Everything was most suggestive of a hawk though.
The spinal cord seems to line up with what you are saying a hawk would do. But yes, four of the ducks have been killed. Is it possible for there to be.. idk.. multiple hawks??? I really don’t know.
If hawk.. are there other ways of keeping hawks away?? We do not have many mice/rats around.
It’s so awful. None of the others are hurt at all. We have lost ducks in the past, but the ones we have lost previously were gone without a trace. This is such an awful and graphic scene, I just want to figure out what could possibly do this during the day time so I can remove it.
I believe so. All I could see that was left was all bony spine. I messaged the Waterfoul rescue in my area also, to see if they had any ideas and they said that it could be a hawk. Do you think a hawk could do this?
I’m posting a picture for reference. I apologize, it’s very graphic.
My ducks were killed this morning between around 8am-11am. We have never lost any ducks this way… I am trying to determine what type of predator could have killed them in such a terrible way— all the skin/muscle/etc is gone...
I’m in Shelby, NC. So about 1.5-2hr drive from the mountains- like boone etc. I assume it would be possible for them to be here, but I’ve definitely never seen them or heard of them being around.
I apologize this is so graphic, but this is one of the ducks. I just wanted to post a picture for reference.
Lots of feathers everywhere, so to me that’s an obvious fight. And then all that’s left on the next is just the spine.
Would they be out in the mornings around 9am?? I know we have them around, but I’ve never seen them in the mornings. I will definitely be getting traps
please help. I am in tears this morning. I found my ducks dead with all of the skin, muscle, etc ripped from their necks ONLY. The heads and bodies are in tact and untouched. We let them free range during the day because we have a pond that they love to swim in and explore…. Which I know there...
