No I did have a saddle on her but removed for the molting. It’s her entire skin, even chest too all bright red.

    RIR skin bright red

Hi! My RIR’s skin is bright red and has been like this for some time. She’s eating, drinking, currently molting and none of my other birds have this issue. She does not have lice or mites I see. I notice she has always been a super high stressed bird and I’m not sure why. What could cause this?

    Scabs on chicken skin?

Hi! I have a recently processed rooster and after finishing the processing noticed there are “scabs” on its skin? Is this normal and is it safe to eat? I would hate to throw this bird out seeing it was used for a purpose and I do not want that to go to waste. Thanks!

Feeling awful for culling my rooster

Thank you, I don’t like the broomstick method and was planning on the cone with the other 3 Roos I have; for me to make sure 100% they’re gone. If I place a small cloth around their face after they’re in the cone do you think that would help keep them calm? We may have to pull the necks down for...

Feeling awful for culling my rooster

Thank you, it was more fun at first but changed when they became aggressive. It’s still sad, I have to cull his brother tomorrow that’s for sure; he charged me multiple times again today so I know it’s right. I still feel sad because I had them this long but it’s better in the long run.

Feeling awful for culling my rooster

That’s the plan for next year, I have 4 roosters planned for meat birds this year. I think they’ll be easier we don’t really spend time with them

Feeling awful for culling my rooster

Thank you everyone, I bawled my eyes out last night and crying as I reply. I’m sure the same will happen with his brother but I know it’s for the best. I buried him, I couldn’t bring myself to eat him and will do the same with his brother. For me they were in a sense pets because I had them so...

Feeling awful for culling my rooster

Last night I made a decision to cull my first rooster. He was about 2 1/2 years old and I hatched them from eggs to start my first flock. I made the decision because he wasn’t backing down from fighting with his brother (same age) and another rooster who is just over a year old. They got along...

    Injured rooster toe

The skin flap is a little big and I’m worried that it’ll bleed pretty good if I clip it. Should his nails be shorter? I’m used to cats nails but chickens I’m not sure how long the quick is

    Injured rooster toe

Hi! My rooster injured his toe about two weeks ago, not sure how he did it but I’m guessing it was hardware cloth that cut it. I’ve been wrapping it daily, rinsing with hydrogen peroxide, drying then spraying a healing aid for chickens on it. It now looks like this and I’m not sure if this is...

    Aggressive chick in incubator

Hi! I have an almost 20ish hour old chick and one that’s only an hour at the most old. The older one keeps pecking it and being aggressive! How do I stop it? The oldest isn’t dry enough to move out of the incubator. The picture is blurry but that’s the mean one!

    Special needs chicken Upstate NY

Hi! I have a 4 month old chicken I am looking to rehome to someone who is able to give it a great life. It cannot walk due to leg deformities so I am trying chick chairs and soft bedding to try to prevent skin breakdown. It is a sweet bird and deserves someone who can care for it 24/7, I cannot...

Scaly leg mites or normal rooster legs?

He is about 1.5 year old but my other rooster I don’t think he has any issues when seeing from afar. Putting that coating on his legs the sand would stick to it terribly I’m guessing. How often do I have to change the coating?

Scaly leg mites or normal rooster legs?

So far he’s the only one. The coop has sand in it for the base. Does that have to be removed?

Scaly leg mites or normal rooster legs?

Hi! Does my rooster have scaly leg mites or is this normal rooster legs? My other birds have smooth legs but his seem to be raised a little. My other rooster I haven’t been able to catch to see up close haha

    Newly hatched chick with hen

My coop is smaller but they have access to an enclosed outdoor run. I tried letting the other hens see the chick but they were pecking at it and the mother hen was worried about fighting everyone instead of protecting her chick

Can I water glass 2 or 3 week old eggs?

Oh good! I’ve been waiting until I have enough to water glass at once so the freshest would be at the bottom of the jar

Can I water glass 2 or 3 week old eggs?

Can you add eggs to a jar as you collect to water glass? Mine are about 2-3 weeks old and I was contemplating water glassing those because I won’t have enough at once to fill my quart mason jars. Second, can you water glass pullet eggs?

Not sure what’s wrong with 2 day old chick

At first I thought it was a slipped tendon on the right side but I am unable to feel if the tendon is out of place. The left leg is pushing behind and rotated but I’m not sure if that’s to try to balance out the other leg? I’ve been trying different things for the chick to sit in but it keeps...
