    The American Bresse...

I was referring to color of the meat, also ratio light to dark with similar flavor. Ive purchased a local gal`s butchered Cornish cross and it was delicious - just wondering whether there's some compromise breed where we could be a bit more self-sustaining instead of having to buy every year

On the nutridrench- does anyone mix an keep longer than the recommended 24 hrs?. I cut the ratio down to a pint- but still seems like I'll be wasting a bunch if I follow that guideline

    The American Bresse...

Dual purpose birds for meat?? Because I don't like the idea of having to purchase new birds every year, I would like to be able to reproduce my own. We are pretty traditional American eaters so I know Cornish cross is closest To grocery store meat- any specific breeds that are maybe a "close...

I am planning to do something controversial, eating eggs immediately after worming with Ivermectin.

From someone who took "horse Iver" treating the "plague" a few years ago (in a measured weight appropriate dose) - I would not expect ill effect from the trace amount in chicken eggs ( maybe if you ate 2 dozen a day for 3 weeks straight lol).

newbie egg maker mama....looking at meat for next year

Wow! Thanks for taking the time to answer in such detail. I guess it's a good thing I didn't decide to try meat this year. Lots to think and pray about. I ordered a frozen cornish cross from a local farmer to try for dinner....but it sounds like all the different varieties can taste quite...

Ok, so I went through the article on fermenting. This is something I'd been thinking about for a while, but hadn't actually jumped into yet. I do have a question (assuming you ferment, since you had the link). The article says feed 1/2 to 1 cup 2x/day (watching for it to be gone in 30 min). Is...

Hi all! I currently have 5 pullets (4 Buff Orps, 1 RIR) and 1 (oops) Buff Orp rooster. No eggs yet (about 16 wks)....already looking to next year, and whether I want to add more for meat. My feed supplier (a local farmer who ground us some good organic feed) is not real thrilled with cornish...

    delaware x new hampshire

I realize this is a very old post. Apparently Cackle has stopped producing this variety. Anyone have ideas where I could find this bird commercially (without buying and making my own cross)?
