    New and Old Flocks...HELP!

Hello, We are going into year three with our small flock (Pilgrim goose, Pilgrim gander, and Buff goose). The Pilgrim had a gosling so we found him a friend and added a Sebastopol goose and Sebastopol gosling to that flock. We are still integrating them. This will be a group of 6 total. The...

    Geese flock, new gosling question

I’ve heard to keep a 2:1 ratio, geese to ganders. I’ve also heard that they’re so flock oriented and are more like a blended family and I don’t know what that means.

    Geese flock, new gosling question

We have a Pilgrim gander, Pilgrim goose, and Buff goose that we got two years ago when they hatched. This year they hatched one egg successfully. It looks to be a Pilgrim gander, he is about 4-weeks old now. It looks like none of the other eggs will hatch, there was one we found dead by the nest...

Injured or sick eye and beak on chicken

I noticed the shipping times when I was trying to find something. I knew she took a turn and didn't think waiting a week would work. It's frustrating that I could get a human version easier than a chicken version! I wish a had a vet friend that could help out but I need a better plan in the...

I am. I thought it was going to happen when her crop didn’t empty so I prepared myself as best I could. Thank you for all your help through this!

Injured or sick eye and beak on chicken

final update: she died last night. Thank you everyone for trying to help her. I think she needed oral antibiotics but I was told I needed the vet and didn’t know how or what to order online. In the future is there a chicken antibiotic that should be kept on hand for these unexpected situations?

Injured or sick eye and beak on chicken

Had a confusing morning. I watched her eat 12 hours before I checked her today. Her crop emptied a little bit not fully after those 12 hours. I felt discouraged and like that was a bad sign. I flushed her eye but forgot the antibiotic ointment. I went back about an hour later, saw something...

Injured or sick eye and beak on chicken

Thank you. I knew it would happened eventually but he took a fast downturn and it was still shocking if that makes any sense. I was trying to be with him and take care of the hen so it was a lot for bit. He had bad arthritis so I’m glad he doesn’t have to hurt anymore. The hen seemed to like...

Injured or sick eye and beak on chicken

Her demeanor has improved but not her coloring. Hopefully, now that I can get the medicine into her eye better and flush it, we will start to get this infection under control. Before there was the tiniest little opening and I was doing my best but I am not sure it was doing anything at all.

Injured or sick eye and beak on chicken

I couldn't flush the eye before because it was so tightly closed. Now that it is open, I can. I'm going to pick something up but can't find anything specifically for poultry. Would you make sterile water, salt mix or purchase something like this: Bausch + Lomb Advanced Eye Relief - Eye Wash...

No mites or lice. No other members of the flock have any symptoms at all.

Injured or sick eye and beak on chicken

I went to feed the chicken today and her eye is open. She is trying to eat but it’s hard for her so I put some water on some crumbles in a little bowl and she ate! Her crop had food but wasn’t totally full. The eye is really confusing me. I treated with neosporin tonight after she ate. It...

Injured or sick eye and beak on chicken

Thank you. I’m doing my best. The vet is booked for a month and a half and the urgent care won’t see a chicken. I’m going to post an updated pic. Her eye opened today but I’m not sure if that’s good.

Injured or sick eye and beak on chicken

She’s getting worse. Her comb and wattles are so pale now and the eye is still closed and she is still scratching it. I am helping her with eating but I don’t think she is eating enough anymore. We had our 16-year old dog die this week so it’s been tough trying to care for her too.

Injured or sick eye and beak on chicken

She still isn’t opening her eye. I’ve been watching her and she’s scratching at it and that’s where the abrasions are coming from. The lower eyelid seems stuck in place and unable to open. She’s having a hard time eating and drinking and she doesn’t want any help, she is trying though. At...
