Neither have we. We’ve had many hens and never spurs like these. She’s actually the smallest one we have, a prairie bluebelll egger. I may try at least clipping/dremmeling the tips. Thanks!
Curious if these spurs are preventing my hen from roosting or it’s a different reason. I’m not sure if they’re too long or causing her any issues, doesn’t seem to be, but this particular hen never roosts. She always lays in the nest boxes or the ground so I’m constantly washing her vent area. I...
We still have him because he isn’t weaned, but we can’t keep him because we already have a very good rooster (his dad) and the neighbors complained last time we had 3 😒. But thankfully we have a friend that will either keep him or cull/eat him- because we aren’t ready to do that on our own yet 😢...
It’s so big in person, looks more like a toupee lol! She’s very cute. One of her younger sisters has a crest but the one that looks more like her momma (the GLC pictured) doesn’t. Little man (on the right) has one too; he’s the one with the olive egger mom so both his parents have crests.
Hi all! I’m 99% sure this almost 3 week old mutt is a cockerel, so that’s not my question. I’m wondering if anyone has had a chick at this age with such developed comb and wattles and it NOT turn out to be a roo. An olive egger mutt more specifically. I’ll post pictures of him and his parents if...
I looked back at some older photos and if I’m not mistaken, he actually has a wee bit of a crest. I’ve never noticed it. I’ll have to catch him tomorrow to confirm but I’m pretty sure he’s got one. Exciting because I’m really hoping for crested babies.
I’m trying to determine if the chicks circled in red will inherit crests. Hopefully the picture below isn’t too confusing- fathers are on the left, mothers on the right, and their respective offspring in the center.
The two chicks’ father is the son of the olive Egger in the top left who has...
I was initially as well because it looks like there might be similar markings on his chest, however, I thought they laid darker/brown eggs? I haven’t see her lay so I can’t confirm. But he certainly looks very similar to some of the Barnevelder rooster pictures I’ve Googled.
I know this is a long shot, but I’m curious if anyone has the same mix or can identify the breed of the mother hen. This is my boy (first pic) born from a very light cream egg (similar to the photo attached) and an olive egger father (second pic) and unknown mother. The possible mothers are as...
