Yes they have free access to it in the run.
So I found another thread with a blocked crop and she tried some enzyme vitamins so I'm trying that. I sprinkled it on coconut oil and gave it to her. She probably got 1/2 t down today and I might try some more one more time tonight.
Did I mention she HATES when I feed her ANYthing. I'm actually thankful she opens her mouth to breathe when I hold her because that's the only way anything gets down. For a bird who hasn't eaten or drank in several days, she still has a lot of spunk!
This is a continuation of the orginal thread which I didn't think I needed but of course I did because I'm apparently awful at curing chickens, 0 for 6 or so at this point. :(

Initially noticed a week or...
So I tried the Epsom salt in water thing and I can't get more then a few mls of water in her each time I try because she hates it so much. She's not drinking at all.
I started her on monistat cream three days ago I believe, about half an inch of cream twice a day. Her crop is the same every day...
We feed a variety of food waste so there's always a chance something is hurting them. I don't give them things I know are bad like avocados, raw potatoes but I do feed them apples and tomatoes. We also have hawthorn berries on our property which are supposed to be poisonous. So there are a...
Over the past two years of having chickens, our number one problem has been illness. We seem to not have a huge issue with predators but illnesses don't seem to be avoidable.
Timeline: 8 fully feathered pullets, no issues for a year. Hatched out a bird from a friend's eggs and bought four TSC...
So back to the problem at hand.
I'm still dealing with this sour crop issue. I gave acv yesterday which she hated so I tried yogurt because that's more solid, mixed with water. Then lots of off and on massaging of crop.
No change today so I gave her yeast cream. She won't drink water which is...
Yeah I'm not sure what's going on. They are large and fluffy with nice red well-developed combs. They are kind of skittish so I haven't noticed them squatting yet.
It's been colder here but both of my other chick flocks that I got later in the summer started laying no problem despite the cold...
I can give oyster shell too, they prefer egg shells and we only do oyster shell if we run out of egg shells. They aren't going through them very quickly right now which makes sense b/c they aren't laying (we have one layer right now ha!).
They are 30 weeks now so I'm not sure what's going on...
Mine all get crushed up shells in a jug in their run and they're eating higher protein feed. She and all three of her siblings aren't laying, she's not the only one so I'm thinking they are just taking their time.
Yeah sorry, guess I should have kept it, whoops!
She is a marans/olive egger, a few months old, hatched in May I think? One of my new flock that I thought should be laying a month ago but no eggs from them yet. Freeloaders.
Her first symptom was adjusting her crop and shaking her head, mouth...
Give it orally? Yes I can but I think the epsom salt I have has arnica in it? How much would I give? She hates me giving her any liquids so I have to do it a little at a time.
yes, sour breath, still full today despite me massaging, gave her acv and today I gave her some yogurt thinned with water. She hates the acv but will take the yogurt okay. I keep massaging the crop too.
We ended up rehoming him because it was too much trouble to house him separately while we waited for him to mature (or not).
He went to a flock that needed a rooster so perfect!
My main reasons for wanting a rooster is flock protection from hawks (I know this isn't full proof but if he's willing to fight off and/or sacrifice himself if a hawk attacks, I would rather sacrifice him than a hen.) and to hatch chicks on our own.
So right now he's isolated in a small pen...
Thanks. We didn't mean to get a rooster but we ended up with one out of five straight run chicks. I put him in a separate pen near the run and he hates it. This isn't sustainable long term though as we will need to cover and uncover him every day and give separate food and water.
if anyone has...
I have 12 hens and 1 rooster who is about 26 weeks old. They have gotten along fine until yesterday when I found my top hen hiding in the coop with a bloodied comb. I separated her for the night and bought some Blu Kote to put on her and put her back with the flock today. She laid her egg and...
