Brahma
Loretta
Motherhood then molt!
She hatched eggs after -6C, these are some cold hardy little chicks! She's been the best mom (first time any of our ladies have hatched eggs)
Crossbeak week 6
Hard to see in the red light but legs are pale & slightly pink
This is a photo of the other rooster that has pink legs. No experience on leg colour/passing down genetics (also I think this rooster might have 1 barred gene? So chance of passing it down 🤷♀️)
This is such an in-depth response thank you! I will check leg colours and some of those details you brought up (& save this valuable info for further genetic fun)
I believe one of the ee roos has dark legs the other light so I will check that tomorrow etc
I don't know yet if cross beak is...
3 roosters are a Bielfelder & two blue Easter Eggers (unknown parents so that’s tough)
Many of the chicks have fluffy cheeks but this one doesn’t (not sure if all the Easter egger offspring will though?)
Hens are many breeds- speckled Sussex, silver laced wyandotte, black australorps, barred...
Thank you, colour leakage is new to me. Both have gold feathers in numerous places but are acting (so far) more like pullets behaviour wise compared to the others. Only 5 weeks so time will tell!
Just curious on these splash chicks with the odd gold feather. I’ve only ever had one splash before and it was gray/white.
Is that an indication it’s male or can a pullet also have this coloration?
Thx!
Hatched 13 chicks last month and one developed cross beak at 2 weeks old. Im trying to figure out the coloration and problem solve potential parents for the genetics (as I’m reading it’s usually caused by that?)
So far it’s eating & drinking, I’m thinking maybe male with the black head &...
So no chance of bielfelder being the rooster? The colouring is so similar with the brown barring. Can they have two dads research online says no but seems odd that mix of the two roosters..
I can see the saddle feathers now that you zoomed in thx. I’ll let her know 😅
This bielfelder/EE...
It looked similar to a female bielfelder when it hatched (far right) and had chipmunk lines and line down the back (but also a yellow dot like the male bielfelders get 😅)
So this chick ended up being a pullet not a male (oops I gave it away!!) andI think that means the dad was the Bielfelder but with Cuckoo Maran mama not the Brahma?
I purchased these chicks as 'light brahmas' but someone mentioned in another thread that this colour isn't correct. Just wondering if these are light brahmas or what they could be cross with. They do have feathered feet bit not as much as I see photos online.
Thx for any insight!
I'm very new to this breed but the copper maran that I hatched this summer had white wing feathers and turned out to be a blue copper maran (I thought I was purchasing black) as it grew (sadly we lost him to a raccoon )
