    Autosexing breeds?

Boundlesslove, Thanks, not even sure they are what I want. If I do Hampbar seem to be what I would go with do to egg production and size (Medium). I am just putting my ideas out here and seeing if they stand up. I am also looking at Dominique and Hollands. I like to keep something no one else...

    Autosexing breeds?

Vent sexing is only 80% accurate with pros doing it. Sexlinks are not a true breed and do not breed true. Autosexing breeds are true breeds and do breed true. You must keep at least two other breeds to make Sexlinks. Autosexing chickens just seem more common sense to the average homesteader...

    Autosexing breeds?

Why do you think autosexing breeds are not as popular as they should be? I have been reading about the Hampbar an autosexing breed that lays about 250 extra large eggs a year and still is big enough to make a good stewing hen when her laying years are up. Also, being a true breed unlike...

    Photo's of Sandhill Chickens

OK, I keep reading mixed reviews on this place. I was wondering if anyone could post pictures of their chickens they got from Sand Hills. I am not a big on APA standards guy but am more of a function over form guy. However, I believe a bird should look like its breed. For example a RIR should...

Dominique Roo X Isa Brown hens offspring

Dominique are auto sexing. You can tell the difference at hatch from males and females. Autosexing chickens breed true and sex links do not.

Red Dorking X Delaware hen = Sex Link?

Would this cross make a red sex link chick? I am can find no info on this possible cross. I was thinking with good stock this might make a good hen with possible broodiness and the Roosters would be descent heritage meat birds. You thoughts on if they would be sexlinked and how the cross would do?

trying to rebuild Great Grandmothers flock

OK, sorry its been a little while but Zenmonkey and were talking off line. Do to the fact getting chicks this year has been not too easy. Some of the small breeders I spoke to simply where not shipping chicks this year do to the bird flu. Hence, I have ordered some Aquila chicks from Freedom...

    Lavender Orphington questions

Questions for anyone who knows. 1. Are the hens good layers and are they broody? 2. Do or will they take the hot MO summers and cool winters? 3. What size eggs do they lay? 4. I am guessing that as a whole they are a fairly gentle breed? Thank you for your time and knowledge.

trying to rebuild Great Grandmothers flock

You are very correct as long as you have a power grid and or the time to manage an incubator and then raise the chicks. I am not an end of the world total zombie war guy. (Too old and too sick to worry about all that). Just wanting to get back to basics and be a little healthier and teach grand...

trying to rebuild Great Grandmothers flock

I live in North Central MO. Some warm summers and some cool winters nothing too extreme. I have an incubator. I ask myself this question when doing things. "How did God do it" well he did it with broody hens. Because you don't need power.
