Hello. I lived in Altadena ca and had to have my 7 chickens sent to a sanctuary. One of my girls got her middle toe stuck. The sanctuary owner wrapped it up. I drove three hours each way to take her to the vet. They gave her antibiotics, pain meds and ointment for the small cut. They believe...
I have some Buffy’s with very fluffy bums. If they have poopy butt, can I give them a cut? Would it hurt them to trim off some of the bum feathers? Are there parts of the feathers that have blood supply that would hurt?
Hello,
I have a flock of 7, 5 are pullets. I’ve noticed two of them are sounding hoarse . Kind of duck sounding. All eating and drinking fine. I’m not noticing anything different other than the sound.
Is she sick??? Why is this happening? What do I need to look for?
We are new to all of this. We had three babies and one passed. So we decided to order the minimum amount… three. We built a 10x12 netted coup area, with their little sleeping coup inside that. We ordered some chicks to add to our flock and the hatchery sent us two extra chicks!! I know they...
I am brand new to chickens. But one of my girls was nipping at my ankles so I would give her treats! She is sweet but doesn’t love being held. So when she would start running toward me, I’d turn around and put my arms out “oh, poppy wants to be picked up?!
She stopped really fast!
We are in California and it’s 95 right now. And of course will be getting much hotter. We haven’t had our buffies in a full summer yet. Last year when it was warm, I covered the area to provide shade, made sure there was cold water and put a fan on them.
That doesn’t seem to be enough now? Even...
I had to post, lol! I never liked the band, but my husband and I eloped, with friends before our actual wedding to avoid the family drama. SOMEONE, I don’t know who, played “don’t stop believing”. Now I’m obligated ;)
Thank you so very much for all the help. I really appreciate that you all took time to post back. I’m going to slowly switch to a different kind of feed, buy a fresh bag of shells, keep a very close eye on them. I’m hoping it was a fluke. They have all done so well. Their feathers are gorgeous...
I’m looking at photos of “speckled eggs”. Ours look nothing like those. Our spots are very tiny and very light in shade.
Is it normal for the shell color to fluctuate? Normally, they are a light tan color. There are some that come out lighter brown (very light tan).

Omg. There is the occasional egg with the tiny brown speckles…. Not raised, but the little spots. I’m unclear from the article. Are they saying the tiny spots are too much calcium? Is it always sign of a problem?
Thank you for the article. I have done so much researching and I feel like no...
The scratch and peck is the same amount is the one I’m getting. Yes a little pricier. But they really are just pets, eggs are a perk.
Thank you for all the explanation. I can’t stand when an animal is uncomfortable!
Why would worm treats cause a shell issue?
It was suggested by my neighbor and when researching, it seemed like a good option (for layers too).
That one also had lots of pre and probiotic stuff. Do you have a better recommendation?
