Morning update - she's pretty active, chatty and trying to escape the chicken hospital to explore the house. Eating and drinking. Pooping.
No real evidence of passing an egg though (unless she ate it).. so not sure what to do with that? I checked her vent/cloaca and it feels empty.
Will...
I gave her tums earlier today since it was what I had on hand for calcium but can get calcium/vit D tabs in the morning.
She drank some water and has been eating a bit of crumble & yogurt and is perkier since then. Still pushing consistently. Passed some more normal looking stool but nothing...
Hi!
First time I've had a sick chicken and not sure how to proceed.. no access to an avian/farm vet so any possible treatments will need to happen at home. Have access to a farm/feed store that I'm assuming might have some basic stuff available (they close for the day in about 3h).
Bantam...
That's a good point, I think I could be more consistent with deliberatly just walking through him. He does have smaller spurs though (that I imagine would still hurt) so I always wear boots in when I'm in there.
And yeah, pinning was not successful at all, it definitely made him more angry🥴
My boy is a silkie, 10 months old. Raised him since he was 2 days old. We got him from my spouse's Dad and his silkies are all docile.
Over the last month, he's started getting aggressive with me in particular, doesn't go at my spouse. It started with an occassional peck to my boots and now I...
I need to fix the tarp on my run. And I'd like to add another 2x4 roosting bar. Already wrapped my run and switched to a heated water bowl.
The big task I'm hoping to be done before we have too much snow/cold weather is integrating my two new girls into my flock when they're done quarantine 🥴...
One of my pullets that isn't laying yet and my cockerel took to sleeping in one of the nesting boxes.. I put a bunch of fake eggs in my nesting boxes and it seems to have deterred them.
Got my FIRST eggs today 😍 these came from 2 bantam girls (silkie mixes) I "adopted" this week that were already old enough to lay, but I'm happy they're comfortable in their new home!
The other one is also a silkie but is a rooster, so a little bit bigger than her.
There's also a cinder block under the end & the wood piece in front of the ramp is a little step.
I turned the block yesterday.
And I didn't realise it's deceiving in the picture - the wood at the end is just a random piece of wood I put there as a step since I added the concrete block. There is open run at the end of it and on both sides.
I can try taking the siding off, I'm not stuck on...
Picture here.
I added a bit of a side rail today because I've seen her get awfully close to walking off the side at the top and she of course panicks when that happens. Not sure if this is a productive move 😅 will find out in the morning.
Just build one from scratch!
It was based off a plan on Etsy from OWGardenVintage called "Small Flock Chicken Coop". I did modify some of the finishing touches to change the ventilation a bit and added a large door on the side for cleaning.. I also added some foam board insulation (wood...
I'm very happy with my Run Chicken door. My coop is attached to a secure run. Makes life so much easier since I do shift work.
It can run off a light sensor or you can set it to open/close at a specific time.
Hi!
I recently built a new coop and it's elevated off the ground 2 feet so my chickens now have to use a ramp.
It's been a week now and my one hen (a silkie) refuses to go down it - she knows how to go up it by herself at night though. And my other chicken has zero problem going up & down. I've...
