I want to introduce the project Iโve been working on! My Pet Chicken Project!
I love my chickens and while thereโs certain breeds I gravitate towards I noticed that they all carry varying health issues, ornaments (huge combs, too intensely feathered feet, too high egg production etc)...
I really wish roosters would just easily get along ๐ซ weโve got 10 split in 3 groups already and we really canโt have more ๐ they just have the most hilarious personalities ๐
I have a 13 week old Easter egger that I thought was a pullet ๐ฅ She hasnโt shown any suspicious behavior but her back feathers have me worried Smudge is a cockerel ๐
What do you think?
I think a mixture of breeds that have been bred for high production and just very inbred strains contributed to our issues ๐ค weโve started adding breeds with lower egg production and from a different hatchery in hopes that our bad luck ends now ๐ค๐ฅ

My first batch of chicks hatched for this year! ๐ they are barnyard mixes from our Light Brahma rooster and Silver Laced Wyandotte rooster. The hens are an Easter egger, Brahmas, Orpington, and a Black Star. Yโall have been right on my last batch so Iโd love to hear your thoughts...
Picking breeds with a higher egg production for sure was a mistake I made when I got some of our current birds ๐ I just looked up each breeds personality and didnโt pay enough attention to the number of eggs ๐ฅ which breeds are your older ladies? Iโd love to hear your recommendations!๐ one breed...
I agree with what you said about managing them and keeping them healthy ๐ But I view the responses in this thread from a perspective of getting hope that one of my little feather friends like Obi Hen might get lucky enough to live with me 10 more years ๐ Iโve had horrible luck with my ladies so...
