In total, my run is 301 sq ft. None of it is covered except for under the raised coop, which is about 25sq ft. I have a large tree in the run which significantly reduces the amount of snow that lands on the floor under it. Often times under the tree only get an inch or two, while the rest gets a...
I live in North Idaho. I have been trying to winterize my coop & run before the snow comes and the temps really drop. I've got my coop all set, and now I am moving on to the run. This is my first year really "winterizing" my run, so I'm not really sure what it needs. Yesterday I put this tarp...
Today I wrapped my run with clear tarp as a wind block. The top of the run is open since I don't have a roof, but that also provides plenty of airflow. I am also adding some more perches in the run to provide vertical space for them. Got the hens all "cooped" up for winter!
Here is a picture of my OSB ceiling - to me that doesn't really look like mold, just normal OSB texture. I am no expert when it comes to this and have never dealt with mold, so it could be, I just don't know. And in person, the spots look much lighter - like a reddish brown.
Here is another one...
So should I clean it now or wait until the weather is more dry in the spring? I assume the sooner the better for getting rid of mold, but I don't want to paint over damp wood if the humidity is high. I will try to do a big coop cleaning this week, if it ever stops raining! :fl I also am not sure...
I haven't got any food or water inside the coop, so hopefully the new bedding will help! Although, since the mold is on the roof next to the roof soffit opening, will new bedding help the mold up there? I will clean it and paint it ASAP.
Unfortunately I cant do Horsebedding pellets just because of the price they are here, but is there another bedding that would work better than pine shavings? I will quit the Deep Litter method.
It's hard to tell where the mold is - Could you tell me what part of my coop you zoomed in on?

I don't have a Sweeter Heater, but I do have a radiant panel heater that I turn on during cold snaps. It's off right as it's staying around the 40's at night.
I cant do that because it is impossible to hang it. It is made to stick onto a wall. I do have it out of direct drafts and at perch level. Thats the best I could do.
So at about 3:00pm I checked the humidity % both outside and in the coop, and inside the coop it was 94%, which seems high, except that outside it was 99%. It has been raining a bunch this last week, so the humidity has been in the high 90's outside. My logic says that no coop with airflow could...
