I got this chick from a hatchery as a pullet but I’m questioning things 😂
Swedish flower hen - 11 weeks old
It was one of the sweetest chicks I’ve ever had - red flag #1 😂
It did develop a comb a little quicker with a little more color but it’s stayed consistently pinker than my other...
I haven’t tried peepers yet! I feel bad because I know who’s doing it (at least some of it) but it’s not out of aggression or anything. Like I’ve seen them all laying out in the sun and the one just leans over and starts plucking and eating feathers like she’s preening them 🤷🏼♀️😂
I did treat...
I love sand in my run! Construction sand or river sand depending on where you live I know it can be called different things. It doesn’t get as cold here as it does in your area so I can’t speak 100% on that but I do know others who have colder temps also use sand. The sand is super easy to sift...
so you think it’s just feather plucking and not mites? I know which hen would be doing the plucking. But I assumed since it’s on so many of them now that it had to be from them scratching/mites. I’ll definitely try the peepers on her - thank you!
I’ve had a hen missing neck feathers for a while now - I’ve posted about her before. I came to the conclusion she was being plucked by another one of the hens. But now I have a couple more hens missing neck feathers within the past couple weeks. The feathers on their back are also messy/fluffy...
I posted a couple weeks ago…I’m back with my 4 week old chicks and I think I hatched 4 cockerels and 1 pullet 😂
1. 4 week old Easter egger x Orpington. I’m feeling pretty confident she’s a pullet.
2. 4 week old Easter egger x Orpington. I was so confident she was a pullet but within the last...
I’m currently thinking the black one (pic 2) and the brown one (pic 5) are my roosters! But of course I’ll probably change my predictions several times in the next couple of weeks 😂
I’ll definitely come back and update!
I know, I know 😂 It’s way too early.
These chicks are a few days away from 3 weeks old. I hatched them and I’m being impatient. So just for fun while I’m waiting for a few more weeks - what’s your best educated guess on hen or roo for these 5 chicks?
4 are Easter egger x jubilee Orpington and...
My hen started molting around her neck in the fall and then I had a rooster that was overmating her and continued plucking out her neck feathers (I no longer have this rooster).
I’ve noticed her feathers starting to come back in for the past couple weeks. Today I noticed this bright red spot...
Edit: I waited and gave it more time and it hatched all on its own 😊
This chick has looked mostly like this since 7:50ish this morning (currently 8:42am) when I woke up. It’s coming out the end of the egg instead of the middle like all the others hatched. Would you intervene now or wait longer?
