Thanks Moonshiner. I was guessing girls but knew that you all know way more than I do - just finishing up my first year with ducks. And, most likely wishful thinking. I so need girls, and now likely more boys. May have to contemplate an all make flock!
Hi Everyone, I am wondering if you can help us to determine if our ducklings, DeBois & Bayou, who are 6 to 7 weeks old respectively, are male or female using the audio/video files attached? We found the information to try this method from David Holderread’s book “Raising Ducks” - which I...
Somehow the photos of eggs were jumbled, I’m going to put them in order and post here again. There are five eggs, two photos of each one.
Egg 1 - Oldest Egg of the bunch
Egg 2 is marked with a date of 11/27 and 4 is marked 12/7, easily the newest egg in there, having been the last leg laid before the girls stopped laying eggs for Winter. Thanks for your help!
The last egg looks a greal deal like the first duckling, “Persephone Dubois” did. The new duckling’s egg looked much like it too, but I could see motion, tring to internally pip.
Look how quickly they took to one another!😊💚But my, what a difference a week makes in size.😳
I have posted a thread in the Duck Forum asking for thoughts on who the daddy’s might be!
I have two new ducklings! We know that mom is a Cayuga however the dads are unknown. I’m guessing the older of the ducklings is a Rouen/Cayuga cross because of the stripes around her eyes. What do you think? This duckling is pretentiously named “Persephone Dubois” and was a Christmas miracle. I...
I have tried to hatch my Cayuga ducklings eggs for a couple months after a few of my ducks were killed or carried away. This is my first year with Ducks and I hatched them myself in the Spring. I had zero success until right before Christmas when one shocked me by hatching such a little miracle...
Also, I hadn’t seen your post about photos to identify the others as alive or not. I’ll do that tonight and really appreciate the help! In an ideal world I’d have one more, but I’m thrilled to have a second (and a first!) this Holiday Season!🤞💚😊
Kathi, I am hatching a friend tonight! So glad as you are quite right, my solo duckling is more needy and while I love being the object of affection, I cannot hold hee 24/7! The mirror does help out quite a bit, but a real friend will be best.
